the fact that we still don't own a second-round pick in 2025 leading up to the trade deadline is a failure for management IMHO.

And since we are on this topic, it would be nice to reacquire our own 2nd in 2025 from Mtl if at all possible. This opens up more possibilities with RFAs this summer.

The Habs are not buyers per se, and they have players to sell, but they might be looking for a few depth players. Beauvillier in particular is a guy I always assumed would wind up there because his former agent is the GM in Mtl. IF they trade a guy like Evans or a guy like Dvorak, maybe they would have some interest in Glass as a fourth-line center option. I doubt they want Ned or Grz, but maybe there could be a deal to be made here to reacquire our 2025 second rounder.

Unfortunately, it is going to be a solid pick so Mtl might be looking to keep it.

Dubas had to make a deal to dump Petry, Granlund and Rutta. The second to the Habs to take on salary was the cost. Dubas will get back a nice return when he deals Karlsson. So it is as best a wash deal wise after 2 years. The key is 2026 here. Pens can have draft of top 5 talents plus what the Rangers pick turns into. Give me the RH center or forward this year and a top center next year and add a RD or LW with the Rangers pick and Pens are back in business in a couple years.

who is going to be available in the second that we are going to miss out on that would make it a failure?
Not really my point. My point is we have not done enough to ship out players for picks. Teams trade second-round picks all the time. When you are in the position we are in, not having a second-rounder this year is not good.

That does NOT mean you trade Karlsson or Rakell for a second in 2025, obviously.

McQueen dropping out of the top 10 as indicated in this article would be interesting provided the Pens have the Rags' pick this year. Martone/Frondell + McQueen in the same draft would be a haul.

We have better than that, we have two 1sts. Also, we aren't exactly brimming with roster players worth 2nd round picks that we're willing to trade once you take Karlsson and Rakell off the table. Who do you suggest?

3 3rds is pretty good. You can get players with value there, even if they’re unlikely to become full-fledged NHLers.

This draft better net us mans goo.

Any posters here familiar with mans goo? Maybe some of our Swedish posters have played with mans goo when they were younger

Edit: thank you all for the DMs and pics you shared with me, but I specifically meant drafting a goalie this year

The Penguins don't have a 2025 2nd rounder right now because no one they've traded and no one they have as trade bait has the value of a 2025 2nd rounder. You would have had to sell low on Pettersson, Karlsson or Rakell to get a 2nd this year, and everyone else that could be traded wouldn't bring back a 2025 2nd.

I also don't see why I should care that they don't have a 2nd when they have 3 3rds, with the Penguins 3rd ending up basically a late 2nd anyway. They have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds in each draft in the next 3 years, and I figure they add another 3-4 picks with guys like Rakell, Karlsson, Grzelcyk and Beauvillier being moved at the deadline or in the off-season.

Administrators!!! Lock this thread up immediately!!
Before I read something I can't unread.
Which I might have already. 🧐

At 6'5" that's quite the load to handle back there.

HP put out a new list last week. I think these guys are best public draft material there is.
So basically we're looking at Frondell, Martone or Mrtka. I'll tell you right now, if we get Martone, the juice he brings will help in changing our identity. We need some oomph and he provides that. And if NYR decides to give us their pick or McQueen drops to the point where we do end up with NYR's pick...that's some BEEF coming in

Not necessarily. List will change some before final version. Also McKenzie poll is a better indicator of who will be available in what range.

Tbh all the list tells me right now is we need to get into top 5

I think considering McQueen has had a relatively serious injury and hasn't played in like 3 months and is still mostly ranked around the 8-10 position suggests there's at least a bit of a drop-off after him.

Misa at #2 over Hagens. Not completely unexpected.

I don't know if Frondell over Martone happens. I think there's a clear top 3 and the #4 automatically goes to Martone. Too many GMs have seen the impact the Tkachuk brothers can have. I don't think Frondell is THAT much better to warrant giving up that size and style of play.

Martone at #5 would be a hell of a steal. Frondell at #5 would be solid. If we are outside the top 5, I think I'm going Desnoyers or Eklund.

Odd to see Desnoyers at 14ov though. I highly doubt he drops that far. At 6-10, I think you're looking at preference but from an overall ability and skill set standpoint, there isn't 7-8 guys better than him.

Ryabkin at 16ov is interesting as well. He dropped a bit in a few other lists. He'd be a fantastic get with the Rangers 1st.

I was checking the McKenzie list, and I think I liked 18 of his top 19 picks. Or something like that. They are all either centers, big wingers, big defensemen or scorers. I like that. We need all of that.
