Let's say it's a fair deal. I'm more concerned with whether the first-round pick would be traded or if they say we have to keep the pick no matter what.

Realistically, any player they would take with the pick is the best player in the system.
i think you always look, but it would need to be an overpay.

Trade it for a 1st next year. Some GM will get hot for a prospect and bite.
Nah, don't overthink it. Use the pick. They'll be right back here vying for a top-5 pick next year too imo. Maybe even in a better situation to chase McKenna after removing a buncha vets via trade between now and next October--if they're smart.

Maybe they could package this year's high pick in what looks to be a shit draft with the dozen or so 2nd and 3rd round picks ranging from 2027-2044 to entice some assuredly-savvy GM to part with next year's top pick in what looks to be a not-as-shit draft? I know we were saving those up to unleash Dubas' ultimate plan to win the whole league but ya gotta give to get.

Next season supposedly a better draft. Would rather have two 1sts then if we miss top 4 or 5 this year 🤷‍♂️

There's no reason to trade ANY of our picks, at this point.

We need all of them.

I dunno. I clearly differ quite a bit from you guys on what I think they should be doing but if I'm the Penguins holding like #6 overall and I know that the draft drops off a cliff around 4 or 5 then I'd try to leverage it into something else. Maybe a package for a good young roster player that isn't fitting into his current team's plans or a recent top draftee that is a couple of years out from his draft etc.

Yeah, I mean, they're looking like they're gonna end up in a top-5 spot. That's getting you the best pick you've had in the system, on paper, since Staal. Even if people are calling it a "weak" draft because of the drop off after the first few picks. And nobody really f***in' knows anyway. Just gotta roll the dice and hope for the best.

if you have another 1st to add to yours, moving up would be much easier.

I guess, but that shit's always overblown imo. I'd rather have like the 6th overall and a top-5 next year than like, a 2nd in a "weaker" draft this year and like the 3rd overall and 20th overall or something next year. /shrug

-edit- Besides, someone's gonna get baited into taking McQueen in the top-5. Dude's a mammoth but apparently sucks at skating, so I think that's a Hugh Jessiman waiting to happen.
