Run the Jewels
Make Detroit Great Again
Skating is but one skill, but I do agree with the distinction. There's a pretty massive difference there with projectability. Nesbitt can't skate. Danielson is a plus skater.

Well that’s depressing!According to Bob's rankings, we are well and truly screwed: Hagens, Martin, McQueen, Eklund and Smith all going between 7-12. Aitcheson, Bear and Carbonneau all available. I might just go with Reschny in that scenario. Detroit's NA scouts will never do that, we're probably going to pick a guy like Nesbitt or Cootes.
I still think Nate was a reach. Thankfully we got ASP as well.I know no one will like this, but Nate Danielson. Ranked #16 by Bob, we took him at #9.
Bob ranked ASP above Nate.Well that’s depressing!

Maybe. I saw the vision with Danielson a lot more than I see it with Nesbitt.I know no one will like this, but Nate Danielson. Ranked #16 by Bob, we took him at #9.
Nesbitt was 2nd line centre all year.Helps if you can score goals as well. From what I understand both of Nesbitt's line mates outscored him. I'm preparing myself for us to pick him, he'll be irresistible to our NA scouts, particularly if Eklund is taken before the #13 pick.
Hey, I hope our NA scouts draft a guy who can be a significant contributor. I really do.Nesbitt was 2nd line centre all year.
Top line was Greentree - Protas - Morneau.
He looked great outside of the Windsor environment aswell. Probably the best player in the CHL top prospects showcase. Was very good at the U18’s. I agree with Santos. When you view him, the puck just follows him. His anticipation, size, reach and puck control/stick handling really are special.
Tough kid too. Wouldn’t hate the pick.
I will give you that he is a smart player, but I prefer others at 13OANesbitt was 2nd line centre all year.

But the article itself goes into some detail about how up in the air all the rankings are. 8 players got votes at #10 in their polling... that's out of 10 scouts. This is basically a zero consensus draft after about #7 or #8.According to Bob's rankings, we are well and truly screwed: Hagens, Martin, McQueen, Eklund and Smith all going between 7-12. Aitcheson, Bear and Carbonneau all available. I might just go with Reschny in that scenario. Detroit's NA scouts will never do that, we're probably going to pick a guy like Nesbitt or Cootes.
Same. But if he is the pick. I would not be upset or strongly disagree.I will give you that he is a smart player, but I prefer others at 13OA
It's starting to sound like picks in that 10-30 range don't have a lot of value this year. Supposedly a bunch of teams are trying to move their picks, if that tells you anything.I would prefer by a country mile to package 13 overall for top half of the lineup NHL talent that fits the timeline.
But assuming that doesn't happen, the descriptions and reactions here lead me to prefer one of Aitcheson, Bear or Carbonneau (if no consensus higher ranked guys drop to 13). They seem like candidates with a shot of being there at 13 that also have a skill set Detroit could use.
So you're saying that Detroit should sell off a bunch of scrubs for those worthless picks in the 10-30 range, then package them all for a higher pick or an actual player? It's starting to sound like picks in that 10-30 range don't have a lot of value this year. I want to know who these 40 prospects are so we avoid them out of spiteDepressing news of the day. Top 40 prospects surveyed on who they hope picks them. We are only one of 3 teams that didn’t get a single vote.
We have GOT to change the perception around this franchise.
I’m sure years later ppl will look back at the draft and be surprised at the players coming out later 1st and etc... they’re never 100% right on these things it’s a crapshoot it’s up to us to find the guys with upsideSo you're saying that Detroit should sell off a bunch of scrubs for those worthless picks in the 10-30 range, then package them all for a higher pick or an actual player?![]()
My biggest issue with Nesbitt is the value proposition. I would be fine with him in round 2, and I just don't think he is considerably better than guys you could probably get in round 2 or 3.
That would be quite the ballsy pick. He did have a pretty significant development curve uptick over the last 12 months. He would need to improve his skating a lot for me, and I am hesitant to pick a guy like that at 13. I have also seen VERY different opinions on his skill level. I believe EP, HP, and Button all have him ranked outside their top 32.
Not sure I can remember a NA player where the league seemed this much higher on him that the public scouting services.
Anyone we can convince to give us a late 1st ,early 2nd for Rasmussen? Can convince them his 6’6 frame can help with the post season?
Flyers are challenging us for the smurf social club of the NHL right now ... pick 31 or 36?
Caps 27 or jets 28? Canes 29... sabres 39? They dealt a first rd prospect for McLeod
Probably no chance but I’d love to get another pick to move up again and get mason west or take zharovsky... 3 yrs left in rasmussen and can’t see us keeping him after that. I’m over him
I could maybe see him being something like another Lars Eller.I second this. Nesbitt to me is a vanilla big guy. They love his size in junior, and they love his position in junior. He's not going to be able to bully 5'10" kids around in the NHL, and his skating is so bad and has so far to go that I don't think he ever makes it as a center in the NHL.
Then what does he become? Just another 3rd line at best winger? His skill isn't as good as some of the other vanilla big guys in recent drafts (Geekie, Wood, Lamoreux, Gaucher, Pickering, Stramel.) These guys have projectable frames but if you ask me which of them Nesbitt has more skill than, I can't tell you. That's why I don't think Nesbitt belongs in the top 20 of a draft. I don't even like him as a 1st rounder, but this is a weak year.
I could maybe see him being something like another Lars Eller.
But like… is that what we’re going for?
There’s too many guys I’d consider this draft which is why my #1 move would be to trade the pick depending on the player or trading up 3-5 spots for someone who wouldn’t be there at 13Honestly I'd rather dump picks from this draft to improve the roster. I like Bear, Martin, Eklund and Aitcheson as my guys. I'm not going to be busted up if we don't pick them like I would have if the Wings missed out on Kasper or even Danielson. Let's turn that #13 pick into a top 6 LW or a top 4 LD that can help the team for the next 5+ years.
The second round this year is about as talented as a 3rd round in an average year. Outside of Gennborg, Moore, Trethaway and Horcoff (if he makes it there) I won't be crying if we trade that pick for roster help. Middle 6 winger that can kill penalties and chip in 15 goals? Yes please. #4/5 defenseman that can kill penalties and play physical without being a muppet? Yes please.
3rd and beyond? Let's turn those picks into fixing our bottom pair D and as giveaways to get rid of Holl, Gustafsson, Tank and Compher!
He went 13th ultimately. I definitely don’t remember him being a burner, but maybe. If I remember correctly, wasn't Lars Eller a burner at the draft?
HockeyBuzz.com - Bill Meltzer - NHL 2007 Entry Draft: Could Lars Eller be the Steal of the Draft?
He was ranked pretty highly.

There’s gonna be guys who come out this draft that ppl will be surprised came out later , always is .... yes I’d consider dealing the pick but always depends who the player is. I wouldn’t deal it for a pageau .... I want to the gamble on mason west , 6’6 athetlic kid who turns 18 in August and is now gonna concentrate on hockey ... I like the upside and I’d take the swing
Buchelnikov plante lombardi ... we need bigger prospects with upsIde all these smurfs won’t be on the roster at the same time if they even make it. Like zharovsky’s skill
If someone can be fooled into giving us a 26-40 pick for Rasmussen I’m sending him off in a heartbeat. He’s gone in 3 yrs anyways. Holl can be bought out and I still think tarasenko and compher can be moved with retention. We shouldn’t be sending assets
Most centers will be gone quickly in Ufa so I think compher can be moved... send him off at 3.75 who wouldn’t send us a 3-4th?

I mean maybe some teams are thinking they see Brock Nelson with Nesbitt?
I don’t know. Like I said earlier, can think of quite a few places I respect that have him ranked outside their top 32.
