Larkin. That would be hilarious on Yzerman's part.So who does Detroit send to accept the pick?

I know lots of people hate Mrtka, but I can see a case for him if all of the gritty guys and all the skilled guys in what is expected to be a shallow draft pool are gone by the time we pick. We don't need Mrtka to be a top pairing guy since we have Mo and Ed. He would be perfectly fine as a second pairing guy who can eat up lots of time 5v5 and on the PK.Martin at 10 and Smith at 20 , but what do I know![]()

Our right side would be a real strength with Mo, Mrtka and ASP.
I think Larkin becomes a top 6 LW as they get older in this scenario
imagine this center depth chart :
LARKIN
MISA
KASPER
DANNYSON
INSTANT DYNASTY
I like him a lot and I just think he is less physical Edvinsson. It's big guy who could skate and I don't care if he is rd . All those defansman always switched their sides . If he is the best player we st take himI know lots of people hate Mrtka, but I can see a case for him if all of the gritty guys and all the skilled guys in what is expected to be a shallow draft pool are gone by the time we pick. I'm kind of burned out from the Ken Holland era where we drafted loads of defensemen who weren't good in their own end, so I can't really feel that great about Smith.Smith has a lot of tools but looks like a super project to me.
If he hits his high end you might get Chabot.
If he misses we have another Haydn Fleury.
I’m not sure what I would project his middle ground to be.
Send him to Europe for a season or two and let him learn the ways of the Kronwall. He's from Czechia. No thanks. He doesn’t seem to have very high hockey sense, is not as good offensively as his numbers suggest, and is not very physical at all. 5’11” ASP is way more physical.

To be honest I haven't seen a single second of his play. Reading a bit on him, he's very mobile for his size and if we can get Kronwall to iron out his defensive play we could have a really strong defense. We're not getting 90+ point forwards with loads of skill, we've spent decent draft capital on Cossa and Augustine, so I think building a strong defense is going to be our ticket.I like him a lot and I just think he is less physical Edvinsson. I think this is pretty fair. In this class I think it is also fair to take him at 12OASmith has a lot of tools but looks like a super project to me.

Ed and Mo are plenty physical. I can see the case for Mrtka as 6'6" highly mobile defensive defenseman. We've had lots of success drafting defenders, so if our staff like Mrtka I'm fine with that.I don’t think it’ll be enough. Aggression and isn’t really learned or improved much as a skill. A player either has that killer instinct or not.
We are blast to have Kronwall and whoever we take Martin, Atchison, Smith, Mrtka or someone else I hope next season they are in SHL.To be honest I haven't seen a single second of his play. Mrtka would be easy because he's from Czechia and the only reason he went to the WHL was because he wasn't getting playing time. That wouldn't be a problem if we draft him.We are blast to have Kronwall and whoever we take Martin, Atchison, Smith, Mrtka or someone else I hope next season they are in SHL.
I get that. I'm not pounding the table for him or anything like that, just putting 2+2 together based on his prospect rankings from two sources. I'm just saying if our scouts like him I'd be fine with the pick.I’m not a fan of picking a big guy that’s ‘a good skater for a big guy’. Or picking a big guy that doesn’t use his size. Mrtka is my absolute least favorite prospect ranked in the top 15.
The upside of taking him, is that right handed defensemen with good mobility are always in demand in the trade market. He doesn't put wind in my sails but I am not going to act like this prototype isn't in high demand.I know lots of people hate Mrtka, but I can see a case for him if all of the gritty guys and all the skilled guys in what is expected to be a shallow draft pool are gone by the time we pick. That's how I was seeing Soderblom, things changeThis team needs MOAR HITZ!!
Jokes aside, I’m not a fan of picking a big guy that’s ‘a good skater for a big guy’. Or picking a big guy that doesn’t use his size. Mrtka is my absolute least favorite prospect ranked in the top 15.
Too many fans (and coaches and scouts unfortunately) don't understand this.I don’t think it’ll be enough. Aggression and isn’t really learned or improved much as a skill. A player either has that killer instinct or not.
We've got Brady Cleveland, so we've got that angle covered pretty well.Too many fans (and coaches and scouts unfortunately) don't understand this.
