2025 DRAFT Discussion

Nesbitt is exponentially more fluid with the puck than Ras ever was and plays nothing like Ras did in juniors. He also has a better motor notwithstanding the heavy feet. Like others have mentioned, I hate that the only frame of reference anyone seems to have is former Wings prospects.
The thing I go back to with Nesbit is his performance in the CHL top prospects game. I know it’s a mixed bag of an event… with little coaching.

But the kids competing do take that game seriously. And when some of the best prospects of draft age were together and they threw a puck on the ice…. Nesbit stood out the most.
The puck followed him and your attention was drawn to him. Like you said incredibly fluent with the puck.

He also seems to be angry in round 2 of the playoffs. 2 fights in 4 games so far.

Read up on Nesbitt yesterday. If nobody slides outta the top10 and he is the guy, I am totally fine with it.

I find it odd that every +6'3" prospect is automatically next Rasmussen. Sure many big guys share similarities. But the difference between Nesbitt's scouting report and Rasmussen's scouting report is that Nesbitt get praise for his hockey IQ and physicality, which Ras wasn't praised off. Nesbitt definitely has more snarl in his game than Ras and ain't that what everyone wanted from Ras?
Not sure how often prospects get compared to Rasmussen, who is a total afterthought.

This page has some brief quotes from people who do scouting and the only comment that caught my eye was 'elite hand eye coordination'. Most of it is
  • "...strong center who looks like a man and yet still has room to get stronger"
  • "...positions himself around the net to jar pucks loose and capitalize on rebounds"
  • "...he projects to be a top-six option."
Same site, Rasmussen:
  • "...almost impossible to move once parked in front of the net."
  • "...for a 6-foot-5 player, scouts are impressed at how well he gets around the ice"
  • "Works hard all over the ice and has good playmaking skills."
Again, mostly looking for your take if you have strong opinions on him, not trying to gaslight him or anything.

Lakovic was compared to Ras, quite recently and i remember from the past as well. When there is a big kid in the draft, it usually doesn't take long before Ras is mentioned.

That's good site, i've been reading it for years. There is similarities between them but also a whole lot where Nesbitt excells better than Ras.

Here's couple other takes on Nesbitt
OHL: Jack Nesbitt - Neutral Zone - Men's
  • He draws 0.61 penalties per game, showcasing his ability to battle through contact and force opponents into mistakes.
  • Nesbitt is a smooth, powerful skater with long strides that allow him to cover the ice quickly. While his first-step explosiveness could improve, his top-end speed and balance are strengths.
His agility and edge work are solid for a player his size, allowing him to adjust well in transition and contribute offensively
  • Nesbitt generates 2.5 grade “A” scoring opportunities per game, a testament to his strong hockey IQ and positioning in the offensive zone.
His wrist shot has both power and deception, and he can release it quickly, especially off the rush or from the top of the circle.
He retrieves 2.7 loose pucks after shots per game, demonstrating strong puck anticipation and a nose for offensive opportunities.
Jack Nesbitt – Windsor Spitfires – Player Profile
  • Skating: Despite his size, Nesbitt is an agile skater with good speed, acceleration and impressive edge work. His ability to move quickly and change directions makes him a versatile player in both offensive and defensive situations.
  • Hockey IQ: Nesbitt possesses a high hockey IQ, which is evident in his decision-making and positioning. He reads the game well and anticipates plays, allowing him to be in the right place at the right time.

Obviously there is work to be done but already getting hyped for skillset Ras never had. IQ, skating, shot, FO skills and actual physicality. And still room grow, like i said earlier said, freight train potential is there.

Thanks for taking the time to do the write up, it is appreciated. Do you know how much of his scoring was at even strength? Ras scored more goals during his 17-18yo season, but a large amount of them were on the power play. I can see Nesbitt has better assist numbers, which is definitely a good sign.

Likely gone before 12 have fun everyone trying to determine who’ll be our guy for 2 months 😂

McQueen probably finds a taker as well so that’s 10

May be controversial, but i hope Yzerman trades this pick if there's a solid player available.

I'm all for just commiting to Larkin's window. It may take a while until this team has 2 legit centers in Larkin and Kasper again. While also having Debrincat still contributing.
