I think Frondell will be a very good one from that 2nd Tier. He is way better than he gets credit for.

Agreed, he's been injured and gotten off to a slow start but I think he'll really come on and be a consensus 5 or 6. Would love to get him.

And why not?

Because Rantanen and almost any other star player in their late 20s that has some control over where they play don't want to waste prime years on a team that isn't ready to win anything yet, even if they join the team. Half the needed supportiing cast is in the AHL, Europe, NCAA and CHL. When a few of them show up, the Rantanens of the world will think about Detroit.

Let's not even try then. I got more time to wait on prospects.

if we get a top 4 pick this year i guarantee rantanen would sign for 14x7

offer him league minimum

"we both know you'd pay us to come here because it means not having to face Brady Cleveland, but it's against league rules to pay you less than this so lets just pretend"
not to mention the opportunity to pad his stats...

"mcdavid into the corner to retrieve the puck... and he gets absolutely smoked by cleveland! that's gonna leave a mark! mcdavid slow to get up... cleveland collects the puck and he skates it up ice... through the legs... spinorama... no one's even challenging the big man, he's just harlem globetrotter-ing it right now!.. draisaitl closes in for the hit... oh my god, cleveland just deked draisaitl out of the atmosphere! draisaitl flies into the bench!.. cleveland picks up draisaitl's stick and he's passing it back and forth to himself!.. he's putting on a clinic now... cleveland enters the zone... skinner is visibly shaking in his boots!.. cleveland to cleveland... back to cleveland... he drops draisaitl's stick and he's really showing off the moves now!.. forehand, backhand... he's just toying with skinner at this point!.. i think he just threw up inside his mask!.. rantanen parked at the far side post... cleveland rips a shot... he's banks it off of rantanen and it's in!!"

I imagine this thread is going to take off quite a bit with the world juniors about to start. Guys to watch are Hagens, Schaefer, Martone, and Eklund in Sweden.

Right now the wings are 4 points out of last. I think they're better than a few of the teams around them but are seriously underperforming right now. I would think San Jose and CHicago are going to stay below them in the standings, but Nashville could pass them.

There's a half decent chance that the wings get a crack at one of Hagens, Schaefer or Martone. Worth keeping an eye on them at the tournament. I think Martone is going to be who everyone eventually ends up wanting on the wings

Ok you went too far when you said he banked it in off Rantanaen. The rest is fairly reasonable though

Im starting to think that maybe we have a shot at a top four pick. 34 games in. 4 games below .500. Haven’t shown any signs of improvement. Maybe the Toronto game. Next to the top four there are two centres that interest me. Frondell and Desnoyers. I have those two slightly ahead all the rest and slightly behind the four. This has been a long winter and may get even longer.

With the rule change from a few years ago, if Chicago and SJ finish below us, since they already picked 1st in the last 3 years, does that mean we get the better odds if we’re right ahead of them?

no, they can only win the lottery twice in 5 years

edit: actuallyyyy... chicago won a lottery in 23 and 24. so i think they won't be eligible until 2028? someone check my math
