2025 DRAFT Discussion

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

OK, who is going full, scorch-earth rebuild this offseason like Chicago did when they traded Cat?

If they’re smart? Buffalo, Utah, Vancouver, NYI, NYR, Nashville, Philadelphia, Calgary, Boston, Seattle.
Maybe St. Louis. Maybe Pittsburgh.

There’s a few useful players on each team that would be upgrades on what we have now.

My question is this; is Yzerman going to run it back next year or actually try to improve and make the postseason?

If the former we should sell everyone over the age of 27 for picks in 2026. I’d rather tear it down than run it back.
If the latter, then push some 2025 picks as chips to the middle for real nhl depth.

It seems pretty clear in firing Lalonde that Yzerman expects the team to compete for a playoff spot. He said as much in the press conference following the move. Now he clearly waited too long to remove Lalonde, but I have a hard time seeing him fire Lalonde when the team was pacing to hit 70 points, hire a new coach, and then decide to tank.

If he wanted to tank, why the hell would be get rid of Lalonde when the team was on track to get the 3rd overall pick?

It's nonsensical.

Does our Sverige branch know about this kid? Frölunda junior, great skater. Maybe a mid-round flyer?

If O’Brien and Eklund are both gone then I want to move the pick for Byram or another youngish solid top 4 LD and maybe a bottom pair RD as a throw in. It’s not a super deep draft and I don’t see many guys after 10-12 that look likely they have future top 6 or top 4 potential.
Would you want to trade, if Martin was still sitting there? The more I read/hear about him the more I like him. Maybe the best 2-way forwad in the draft and a very pro ready game, turned 18 a week ago, not exceptional at anything, but does everything well and is producing (57GP, 72pts) despite not having much talent around him. Not O'Briens points upside. But could be a better version of Cirelli.

When I watch Martin I realize I like the idea of Martin more than Martin the actual player.

I appreciate Martin blasting the puck whenever given the opportunity. And I appreciate him blowing opponents up.

The best description of him I’ve read is he’s a pitbull with skill. But he’s not as talented, as smart or fast as Ryan Leonard or MBN. His shot is very good but it isn’t top 5 in the draft. He’s a tenacious defensive player but I wouldn’t say he’s a smart defensive player.

I like this player, but I’d rather another team gamble on him in the top 10 so a more talented player falls to the Wings. He’s a 12-16 guy to me.

I am not in a position to judge the shot of everyone in this draft class. I just don't think he is quite as smart as I would like and I really don't like the skating from a technical perspective. I love the jam and physicality though. In the end I think we will have better options.

I also obviously can’t judge every prospect’s shot in the draft, but comparing Martin to the players ranked 1-15 he’s in the back half, in my opinion.

Eklund, Frondell, McQueen, Misa, Martone, Schaeffer, Bear, Kindel are all better shooters in the range he’ll be drafted.

If we draft him it’d be wise of the toughness and competitiveness. Again, I really appreciate these traits, but he reminds me of a cleaner LHeureaux.

I see him and Bear as cut from the same cloth, but I see Bear in and around the puck much more than Martin. There are times where I think Martin should be more involved in the play and he just isn't (like he doesn't know where the puck is going). I would love to hear Saka Sault's take on him and those who have watched more of him.

A little breakdown on Frondell.

I’m not a fan of him going to the dump and chase so often. When I watched Djurgarden earlier in the year and I don’t recall if it was just the team’s game or circumstantial. Most of my viewings were when Frondell was out.

I do remember Eklund being very successful on retrievals in part because his speed and tenacity. Frondell is sturdy but seems heavy on his feet and needs a lot of time to wind up than Eklund to get up to speed. I wonder how successful Frondell will be at a puck possession game with only average speed.

It won’t be pretty on this board whatever happens in the standings. If we make the playoffs and draft late or miss the playoffs and draft early. The pick won’t be right anyways

Unfortunately where we are picking I see guys with a lot of potential but they are still projects. Pretty much everyone we get is going to be a bit of a project, more than guys like Danielson who need to work on skill but have an NHL ready game. I think there’s a lot of guys around 10 with skill but they need to work on everything else to become actual effective NHLers.

in other news, the sky is blue.

we have to be ready for no playoffs until we git lucky with generational player in 2nd-3rd rounds.

It would be funny if we double dip on Lombardi’s out of the Flint program.

Jimmy and Amadeus aren’t related, but similiar type prospects.

Jimmy definitely has the skating wheels, high compete/motor and offensive skills to go along with it. Undersized like Ammo too, but probably doesn’t have as good of a shot.

Taking him in the 4th round would be fitting….
