NHL 2025 DRAFT - Bruins pick 7th III

That does not seem exceptional for the first top 10 prospect the Bruins have had since Hamilton/Seguin/Kessel.

They must aim for the potential not safe.
They also can't waste the pick, I have more faith in Martin being a guy that plays 800+ NHL games, I do not feel that way about Hagens. If Hagens had continued to develop this year I would feel differently, but he has not and is no longer a consensus top 5 pick. This also is not a deep draft, it has been considered a weak draft class for a while. If I thought there was a high end, top line player at 7 of course I take him over Martin, I do not see that player being there, I definitely do not see Hagens as that player. Frondell or Eklund is there I take them over Martin.

The notion that Hagens didn't develop this year is crazy. Just counting points is the worst way to evaluate this.

I agree with you.
You also have to factor in the level of competition Hagens is playing against vs the OHL.
Let's not forget Hagens played 2 years in the USHL and had 87 points in 57 games, not bad for a 16/17 YO.
He's played in 28 games at the top end of international play (U17, U18 twice, and the U20 WJ), and he has 23 goals, 34 assists, and 57 points. In 28 games.

I`m not so sure a heck of a player can`t also be found between 10 and 20

Sure. But the 10 player isn't going to be too big a drop off from the player at 5. And in that 10-20 range we're certainly looking at more busts before finding that player you speak of.

I can’t recall the last time a Cup champ won without a bona fide #1 center. The Bruins don’t have one on the roster and they don’t have potential for one in the system. They are picking 7th in a draft with multiple centers forecasted for top 10.

I’d argue they should strongly consider trading up to get the guy they think fits that mold the best. But at the very least if they keep the pick, don’t pick a guy who doesn’t have “first line center/playmaker” in his scouting report.

I don’t want to hear about physicality or leadership or 200foot game. Get a guy who has point per game + potential, or the guy closest to that.

I go Martin. I like the way Martin plays and do not like the way Hagens has dropped this past year. Hagens may well wind up the better player, I can also see him becoming Ryan Spooner 2.0. Martins high end is not top line center but a 55-65 point second line center that plays like Sam Bennett. At worst he is a solid third liner, maybe a smaller version of Charlie Coyle but much, much more physical and involved.
Let's not forget Sam Bennett was traded (arguably given up on) for a 2nd and Emil Heinemann after being a 1st round pick 5 years later ... let's also not forget he is a late bloomer, took him almost 8 years to break out in a playoff where he is a 2nd line center. Let's hold off a bit on the adulation of a guy having a great playoff and is a good heart and soul playoff performer - of course someone like him would be great to have but if it takes 8 years, and having to have Sasha Barkov ahead of him in the pecking order to shine, let's calm down.

If Brady Martin put up the same numbers as Sam Bennett for his first 5 years as a Bruin picked 7th, this place would melt down. Let's not assume Martin comes in here and within a couple of years becomes 2025 playoff Bennett.

I love him too, but give me consensus top 6 or Eklund.

There's way more posters here shitting on Martin then saying we should pick him but carry on with your narrative. It's hilarious how as you soon heard Martin is physical you just decided he has no skill which is another completely false narrative. Dom even said he's a top ten talent but nope he's just a hitter in your mind.
I watched alot of video on Martin.I like him but he loses his man alot in his own end which bothers me as a centre. He definitely needs to develop more awareness out there, but just a kid so that can be corrected.I agree with you though in that he is alot more then just a hitter.I would be ok adding him but still hoping for a bit more..

For some reason people are only seeing "leader, thumper, gritty" and not seeing the tangible things like skating questions and not great hockey sense.

Oh yeh ~ if the Bruins didn’t blow it up and ended around 12-15 someone like Jackson Smith slips through

Maybe even Eklund

Assuming Eklund gone I love Carter Bear

I doubt hes the next sam Bennett. Those are big shoes to fill.
Whoa cowboy

If Brady Martin is drafted by the Bruins I expect him to be much better then Sam Bennett if we don’t count the last 3 weeks a complete anomaly

Bennett averaged 26 points his first 6 seasons

He cracked 50 points this season (51) first time

He plays with likely first ballot HOF Matt Tkachuk

He had a 15 goalless steak of no goals and 1 assist this season

He didn’t even bring back a first when Calgary dealt him available to 30 teams

I drafted him in the SIM 10 years ago and wanted to strangle him - I considered him a bust and traded him after 3 years

Brady Martin better be better than the first 7 years of Sam Bennett
