NHL 2025 DRAFT - Bruins pick 7th II

You’ve been banging the Eklund drum & think you’re spot on. Kid can become an elite scoring winger which this team desperately needs. Lindholm Zacha are responsible enough centers where you can take swings at the wing.

Going along with your theme:
2026-27

Geekie Lindholm Pastrnak
Eklund Zacha Necas
Probably would be
Zacha Necas Eklund

If had all 3

They got Zacha, they can pick Eklund in 22 days

Just have to sign Necas they got it

I've seen a bunch of comparisons on here of Martin to Cal Clutterbuck but Clutterbuck had 34 points at 17, while Martin had 72. Clutterbuck's only great season in the O was when he rode shotgun with Tavares who scored 72 goals that year. I don't watch the OHL near as much now as when Clutterbuck played but from what I've seen, read and heard Martin is far more talented. Martin could end up like Clutterbuck in the NHL but he's a way better prospect.
Clutterbuck, Hathaway, Jost… none of these guys produced in the best junior league in the world their draft year.

I don't know if this is you, but I think a lot of folks are 'afraid' of Martin because they think people are being duped by the fact he's the most physical player in the draft and that's all they can see.

Even if you completely remove the physical game from the equation, he still scored similar to Desnoyer and Martone at even strength (and 10 points more than O'Brien in 9 fewer games). He is a good passer, a good shooter, and has good puck skills. He ranks 12th in the draft in points among draft eligibles and almost all of the guys ahead of him have more games played. My point being that it would seem he has top6 upside based on scoring ability alone, no?

He's also young. He's eligible for 2 more WJC's. Martone and Bear, those guys age out this year. I personally prefer the younger guys because I think they have more room to grow/upside.

I do agree with you that the Bruins need a talented center. Number 1 centers are rare and if we don't get one now, then when? But a lot of "experts" have said that after Misa there are no other #1 centers in this draft... I don't know if that's true, but the other thing that's extremely rare in this league, is that throwback top6 power forward. Those guys are impossible to acquire in their prime.

This draft argument is being framed as a choice between a 1st line center vs a 3rd line hitter, but what if the reality is more like a good but non-descript 2nd line center vs a tone setting 2nd line center that everyone in the league will covet?

Again, I have absolutely no idea if that's the case, I'm just trying to see things from as many angles as possible.

Assuming Misa and Hagens are gone, for me it's 1) Eklund, 2) Frondell 3) McQueen (who I've warmed up to).

Martone is next but with his World Championship appearance I think he's gone before 7.

Clutterbuck had 35 goals 33 assists in his draft year in the OHL . Jost did not play in the CHL, but he terrorized whatever league he was in (BCHL) with 104 pts, in 48 games in his draft year
He was 18 during his draft year not 17 like Martin is. He had 34 points as a 17 year old.

FWIW pull ups aren’t a good metric of how your physical impact will be on the ice. Unless you’re chara and weigh 240 pounds, because the indicates you not only are big, but can pull all of that weight up too which means you’re incredibly strong

Hockey players tend to be bottom heavy by nature of them putting so much work into skating, pull ups are naturally a lot harder when you’re bottom heavy

Bedard is more on the slight side and certainly plays like it, not surprising he was able to do 14. You can do a lot if your body is overall in tune with itself and you don’t weight a lot outright.

One thing mentioned in a podcast I found cool recently that Ference mentioned: a correlation for success in terms of physical tests is guys that give that last spike of effort when doing the oxygen exertion test or whatever it’s called

He was 4 months older in his draft year, so he turned 18 in November of the year he was drafted, while Martin turned 18 in March
And it was still his 3rd year in the OHL while this was Martin's 2nd. That's comparing apples to oranges. Clutterbuck grew up playing hockey with and against players born the same year as him regardless of whether they were born in January or December.

I see alot of people here talking about Brady Martin and going back & forth on him etc at pick 7.I been watching video of these prospects to get a better idea of the players and while I like Martin ( and he could very well be better then ranking) I don't like the fact he loses his man alot as a centre. This video is excellent stuff on him ,good and bad.

Yup 4-6 he’s going to be the guy
I’m betting Martin goes later. Like 8-10. There are holes in his game. I did watch a lot of shift by shift videos of his games. I watched either 3 or 4 and he threw one hit. So he may be a rise to the occasion type player, but that’s one thing I noticed after all the hype over his physicality and highlights. He does motor though and keeps his feet moving at all times, but he is also not a graceful skater at all and he tends to do his own thing instead of being part of the flow of a team’s system. He does have some nice hands and definitely heady. I was surprised by that as I was expecting more north south no nonsense hockey. Bennett type player is something I think he could achieve and if you think it’s worth a high draft pick on I wouldn’t say you are wrong just you prioritize something different in a player.

I am still on the Eklund train at 7 though. He is going to be like Jarvis with a bigger motor. He is going to be a staple jack of all trades top 6 guy. He does all this while being part of a team’s system. To me that is one of the biggest things I look for. Yeah it’s all cool that some one can dangle and make highlight reel goals, but can they flow with their linemates in a cycle. Can they find soft areas that allow them to make plays. Quick give and goes, cut backs and restart cycling. Eklund has that ability.
