WC: 2025 Czech Team

Its a bit bitter tournament, cause we had WC where we got kicked out in QF and in most of them we kinda struggled through the whole group stage, but this year, till the game 7 in group we looked fairly dominant and great eventhough we obviously had much weaker team then last year (yes its true, despite Pasta, Necas and Hronek in the team, the back bone of the squad was much weaker). still it looked like we can top the group and play for medals again

And now we are going home after two rather unpleasant defeats, dont know what to take from this ... eh, what can you do, we won last year and those tournaments are every year after all

Its just shame, it was all about ONE f***IN POINT lol .. look at Swiss, Austria QF now Denmark in semis, if we took them out in regulation instead OT, that could have been us lol and we could have play for gold on sunday again ...

Hockey and sport in general is crazy sometimes, how little is the difference between big sucess and absolute disaster lol ... but thats what it is, and how it should be, thats why sports is so amazing, you never know what will happen and how little can make such a big difference ... and what can Canada say right? Lmao they were probably just poping champaigne to celebrate gold on sunday and now we meet tommorow at airport lol

Overall I am not dissapointed .. well I am a bit with the game today, I think we could have showed more even against such a stacked Sweden team, that 1st was a nightmare, who knows what would happen if Vladar started and we could have hold it to maybe just 1:0, cause that 2nd and 3rd werent necessarily bad, Sweden was better but it was a close game as I expected .. well no point on dwelling on this now ... but overall with tournament I am not that dissapointed, of course finishing 6th sucks, but we were just a bit unlucky this year to injuries, Kulich situation, some players not showing (maybe they could look up their concious if they really needed that extra two weeks of vacation), but it wasnt a disgusting game in group from us like those 2021 and 23 tournaments where we got kicked out in QG .. we actually played great hockey and it was really pleasing to watch ... so as for performance showed, I would say it wasnt a bad tournament .. of course the overall result in underwhelming

Next year OG, we will very likely end in QF there too, just dont know how we can keep up at best on best with our current defense. But then next years WC will be interesting, maybe a weaker showing from most top teams, so can yield unexpected results and maybe we can squeeze in some medal in there lol

Thanks man! Im also sad that your journey is over, wanted to see you win against Sweden
So did I but I'm happy for them. Great squad. Not like the loss was controversial (eg. Finn's have a reason to be pissed). They played great. A gold in Stockholm would be amazing. So would Swiss getting a gold. So would Danes getting a medal. So would USA breaking their senior curse.

we got our gold last year and it was well deserved. Only thing I don't like is that we had a lot of Olympic guys and it doesn't bode well.

Maybe this year you finally make it, I mean props to Denmark, but they 99% cant replicate a game they had today, so your path to final is clear, and then its just one game and anything can happen, if you play USA, sure they are strong on paper, but you did beat them once already at this tournament .. with Sweden it will me mouch tougher cause they are insane this year, but its just one game so anything can happen

Yeah I am salty about you, cause I am jealous just how good you manage to play the groups lately lol, eventhogh only one silver pan out from it so far (but I am pretty sure at least another silver is lock for you guys this year) .. I will actually cheer for you ... so that some other country will win it for a change then the usuall big boys lol

Good news for OG

Rulik is still coach. I trust him.
We will have our C's. Zacha, Hertl, Kulich and Kampf is my pick. Great C depth (for us)
Dostal in net (yes I want Vej as 2nd and am alone in this but I don't blame him at all for today)

Bad news for OG

Does adding Gudas to this D core make that big a difference? My absolute most optimistic take:

Rutta is full time in NHL and playing top 4 for a non playoff team
Jiricek is full time for Minnesota
One of Spacek/Dvorak/Svozil has taken a step and are in NHL somehow

I don't like our D chances at all. I don't think any of Krejcik, Kempny or Kundratek will be difference makers in best on best Olympics a year from now as they are all getting old.

So yes, a quarter exit.lol

I'm more than fine with out forwards and g.

D is looking like Hronek, Hajek, Gudas, Rutta, Jiricek and Spacek.

Yes gudas makes a big difference.
I will always remember tht usa game.
From last year

Well looking behind the whole season I am actually pissed lol ... before the game 7 in goup this year .. our record was 19-5 though the seaon with a score 90-41 .... yet we still end in QF lol ... thats just stinks, stinks

But it is what it is .. Rulik should definitely stay, you just can win everything and sometimes you gonna lose, but we play great hockey under him and its going into right direction

We just need those NHL defenders so much lol ... Jiricek's brothers, Spacek, Svozil, Dvorak, Hamara, Badinka, Mrtka, Psenicka, Dravecky, Kachlir, Byrtus, Tichacek, Cibulka ... read this very good ... DONT f*** THIS UP AND BE ACTUALLY GOOD ... we need at least half of you to be stable NHLers, otherwise we are f***ed lol

Like, some of these have to crack an NHL roster, right? Right?????

None of them suck. Some are skilled. Some are big. Some are fast. Some are big and fast. Some are fast and skilled. You name it, we got it.lol

You forgot Galvas!

Oh, now that he's back in Extraliga.. Kral could make it as I do think he's excellent but him and Rulik need to have a Pivo and some svickova this summer somewhere at a pub and hug it out.lol

Forwards looking solid for OG and GK looking good .. but that D is just pure shit lol ... we have Hronek and Gudas ..... thats it lol ... thinking Jiricek and more over Spacek, Dvorak, Svozil will be NHLers next year is really wishfull thinking

Cervus - Zacha - Pasta
Sedlak - Kulich - Necas
Palat - Hertl - Kubalik
Lauko - Kampf - Faksa - Chytil (or Klapka if Chytil is out)

Rutta - Hronek
Gudas - Jiricek
Krejcik - Spacek - Hajek

Dostal
Vladar
Vejmelka

Or maybe better scenario with Chytil:
Cervus - Zacha - Pasta
Sedlak - Kulich - Necas
Hertl - Chytil - Kubalik
Palat - Kampf - Kase - Faksa

Well I am going to sleep, cheers guys for next season with hopefully better ending ... going to sleep extremely salty given how close we were to finals this year ... yeah its crazy but extremely close one point or one period with USA and we had Austria and Denmark route lol

Just hard not to be salty, going home after QF, seeing that we were so close to have road to finals paved like probably never before lol

REALLY curious if Klapka is a full time NHLer for Calgary next year (or somewhere else).

My dream is Chytil of course. But I doubt it. Sedlak bottom 6. Something tells me Flek is coming. O. Kase. Rulik has his boys. May as well pencil in Pyrochta too.lol

I think we have a good core of players going forward for the Olympics. Not at all disappointed today given the gold last year. I think this tournament has shown who should be in the Olympic squad and who less so. Looking forward to seeing what we put together for early next year!

I am still here lol

Well this post is nice when you put it like this but here it is what I see from my pesimistic point of view:
D.Jiricek - declining form, still not in NHL as a 6th pick, had teribble season this year, very close to a big flop
Svozil - 22 yrs old, not making much progress anymore, probably wont even touch NHL and I fear he will be back in europe soon
Hamara - 20 yrs old still played juniors, not even in AHL
Dvorak - had like 2 points in AHL this season .. completely invisible
A.Jiricek - constantly injured and his CHL season was disapointing to say at least
Badinka - sure plays stable in SHL ... but had like 8 points in two sesons .. is this really good enough for guy who was nearly drafted in first round?
Mrtka, Psenicka - yet to be determined
Dravecky - also, but he really doesnt look like something special in NT
Kachlir - tiny same as Galvas, eventhoug very skilled, he may never see NHL even close
Byrtus - yet to be determined, but definitely not as big skill as Kachlir

So see, those guys were drafter high, or have high potential, but no one is exactly overperforming, quite the opossite sadly, lot of them are underperforming so far given their draft ranking ... so yeah very pesimistic take, but I just dont see lot of them to make full time NHL if they perform like they do right now

As for the Olympics.. Compared to this team, it is clear that the team will be massively supplemented with quality, which this team lacked in many places. Including primarily the strikers and, unfortunately, also in the goalkeeper position. Sorry Vejmelka and czechboy.. It is clear that the opponents will also have better teams, but I believe that, for example, against Sweden, the difference in quality will not be as big as in this tournament..

Yes the lack of quality showed, especially when keeping up with the higher pace that the NHLers play at. I just wish our defense had progressed a bit more though, it's been ages since we last had a good defense. Was it 2005 last time? 20 years and little movement on that front. I hope we are focusing our resources in that area going forward.

Well to be fair, sweden will have much more stacked D at olympics in comparison to what they have here ... in forward groupd the brought close to A game sure, but that D is still close to a B squad which is crazy

In comparison our D will be toughened with Gudas, Rutta and maybe Jiricek if he pulls himself toghether, and thats it ... meanwhile Sweden will have Dahlin, Karlsson, Hedman which are like 5 whole levels above our guys I just mentioned lol

Exactly this ... after 2023 WJC where our defense looked phenomenal, we kinda got on the hype train and with some high ranking D prospects in last years drafts we kinda though we are covered there

But its almost three years after and our D is in the same shit it was at in last 20 years lol... I also expected we will be much further along at this front by now .. but as I wrote a bit above. sadly our high ranking prospects are rather underperforming so far instead of fulfilling their potential

Edit:
And thats not just about Jiricek ... Tichacek and Spacek were both rather disapointing at this tournament, I really thought they will be much further along at this time, Svozil would probably be similar case, he really doesnt look like anything special right now in AHL ... Hamara, Moravec, Cech not even close to NT quality lol

Time to look at minutes!lol

So the neatest fact.. Klapka played 4 shifts and was minus 2.lol 2:22 and -4. I love him and wanted him here but Rulik will never touch him again.lol

Hornek played 25 and was minus 1 .. that is pretty good!
Tichachek was plus 1 and got 12 minutes, good news going forward.. I think Rulik like him!

Less than 10
Vozelnik, Klapka, Spacek and Kodytek

More than 20
Cervus, Sedlak, Hornek, Pasta, Necas

Lauko was slightly above 10

And this is our Olympic coach. So let's see if guys like Klapka and Lauko get the nomination? I don't think they will and this hurt them. Which sucks because they came without contracts. Vej may have got himself an Olympic Nod but I think it will go Dostal, Vej and Dobes (as I think he'll be a full timer)

Idk about Vej .. Vladar was much superior GK at this tournament ... kinda dont understand why he wasnt starting today, it could maybey gone differently with Vladar from the start
