People often imagine the quality differences between professional players much bigger than they actually are. Norway is no joke. They have a good combination of tough guys and a couple of smart and skilled youngsters. They all are in a very good physical shape. Not an easy opponent to play against, especially when their goalie has a fine day. Sweden had big problems with Austria, Finland with both Austria and France. That's hockey.
Differences are not that big, but still big enough for us to simply outplay them. Sure they have some really good players, but also lot of them doesnt even play in top euro league and those who does really doesnt belong to top players in their respective teams, whereas we have couple of absolute elite NHL players in our team, NHL gk, two other NHL guys (eventhough one is sitting in the stands for no good reason so far), and the rest are mostly top euro players. The diference should still be big enough for us to outplay them.
Yeah Sweden struggled against Austria, Finland stuggled in both games, but its the Same case, they just played badly in those games. You really think that if Sweden played good against Austria it will be such a close game? No they would completely destroy Austria, the quality difference was even bigger then between us and Norway.
I mean even our first squad we fielded against friendlies with Germany could win this game 2:1 … But from a much stronger team we have now, you would expect more. Not necessarily more goals sure you can outplay your oponent and be unlucky and dont score much, but we just were the worse team for a bigger part of the game yesterday, thats what bugs me.
Idk I am used to completely different level of hockey under Rulik. Fast, dynamic, offensive, organized etc. Yesterday was chaotic and unpleasing to Watch, something we would play under Jalonen. Just bad game overall
We must do 100% better tonight
