2025 26 Roster…too Soon

I wouldn't get too excited about him. There's a reason that Utah gave him up for basically a bag of pucks. Steve Peters was on CHGO yesterday and very politely ripped his game to shreds. The gyst: He's not big, strong, fast, or decisive enough for his offensive centric game to play in the NHL.

I'll be a little intrigued if and only if somehow we get Sorensen to go back to Rockford next year and we convince Soderstrom to come back to America after winning the SHL defenseman of the year award to play in Rockford and develop under him. But I find that very unlikely and the kid is already 24.

Considering one of the reasons Soderstrom went back to Europe was because Yotes wouldn't guarantee him NHL spot it is unlikely he would come back to NA to go to Rockford

Reality of deal is Davidson wanted Weber contract, and the throw ins had no future in Yotes organization, so they had no problem moving on from them

Unless the acquisition cost for Howard was compelling (and at the cost of Korchinski, it is not), the last thing we need is a sub 6' sub 190lb winger. Toronto 1st for Howard, sure. A high pedigree D prospect that has progressed quite well (despite being thrown into the NHL for his full 19 year old season) is starting to be comically undervalued around here. I am not saying he will actually hit as a top pairing guy that you expect at his draft slot, but there is nothing in what Korchinski has done up to this point where he can't even legally drink yet that says he can't be what was hoped when he went 7th. Give the kid a couple more years and he just might be really good at 22 with 20 more pounds of man muscle and a 150 more pro games under his belt....you know the age most D break into the NHL full time.

Howard is worth Korchinski

I had him ranked well ahead at the time of the draft, and it's clear he's still the better player now

Wouldn't be a smart move for Tampa, unless they really need a LHD

Not even really going to comment about the KK stuff but Howard is exactly what we need. Close to NHL ready forward talent with high upside and offense.

I don’t mind Howard, but I’d much rather package Korchinski with a few other assets for a known commodity.

I think the Hawks could actually commit to a promise of an NHL roster spot for Soderstrom with Jones gone. Murphy likely misses a big chunk (he almost always does) and the trio of Crevier, Lev, and Rinzel would not be hurt with AHL time for parts of the season. I say bring him over and put him in the blender and see what we have. If after a couple months he is clearly passed by multiples of Crevier, Lev. Rinzel, then you send him back to Sweden.

Maye sodertstrom can come in a play 3rd line minutes. (my guess is he signs a contract with a EURO out? give us a chance to hockey trade Murph at 50%. also I'm starting to question if donato should be resigned. if we somehow get marner im not sure you want to fill the lineup with 30 year olds. If we could find a way to move either bert or TT I think I would bring him back.

Why are people talking about Howard in trades?
I dont think its anywhere near a problem between the two but...

If they cant get him in the NHL lineup to burn the year and he says hes going back to NCAA for the year thats quite the risk for Tampa.

If you're so confident in your rankings and not hesitant to post your W's, why don't you share your pre draft rankings for 2025 for everyone on the board to see? Then we'll have confirmation that you're right all the time.

The thing about Musto is that he's fully dedicated to his own personal "big board" including years and years after the fact. Nobody knows how much time he actually spends watching the top 50 or so prospects, or what level of scouting acumen he actually possesses when he does watch, or what his methodology is for determining his big board rankings, but he is steadfastly devoted to his own personal rankings that nobody else cares about all the same.

Yeah I saw that - very disappointing. I respect "Petey's" opinion so I'm not just going to throw it away as just another talking head with an opinion. Could he have improved? Maybe - he looked pretty good in the few games I watched but it's difficult to draw a conclusion to how a player will play in the NHL by watching a Euro game with the bigger ice surface and style of play (less physical).

when he started talking about Rinzel its immediately like has this guy watched any of the games or just clips

Musto's had some misses but thats normal when you have a lot of takes...I remember him pounding the table on Dawson Mercer over Reichel in 2020 iirc, and there have been other hits along the way...its the trolling on Ian Mitchell etc that magnifies his whiffs...But Strome is looking like a generational talent, so that should wipe away all the misses

Are you talking about Steve Peters (Petey)? He was very complementary about Rinzel (and Levshunov) and showed clips to back up his opinion on some parts of his game. He's been around the game and scouted NHL players for a long time.

I watched the entire episode but even Zawaski kind of said that Peters initial feelings on Rinzel are how Hawks fans feel about Levshunov and vice versa

I like Howard a lot. Would rather move KK in a different deal. I prefer the Nate Danielson one. But I would move the Tampa first for him.

Regardless Friedman reported there is a plan there with Tampa so this is all moot I think.
Haven’t heard that Detroit is looking to move Danielson. That seems very unlikely. Also, Detroit probably feels reasonably good about Edvinson on left d right now.

Right - he said he sees lots of good things in both their games and is very high on both of them. He also commented on some things they need to improve on. I watched the entire CHGO podcast too and thought Petey's opinions were spot on and very positive.
