I’m sure he doesn’t want to but when you’re young and they piss you off 1 year sounds a lot better than all the control they get after you sign. He could hit the portal and make some $$ to make up for it if he really wanted.

Howard is from Wisconsin so good chance he'd have interest signing here if him and Tampa can't come to an agreement. And he plays fast, which is almost a necessity for a kid in this organization.

Ehlers is 100% people stat watching.

He doesn’t play on Scheifele’s line who has to fight through the hardest match ups. And he doesn’t play on Lowry’s line who is tasked with shutting down the other team’s top line. He in fact, gets some of the easiest matchups in the league.

He’d come here and face the hardest competition since he’d no longer be insulated, and likely fall flat on his face. Couple that with he’s not physically engaged, and defensively bad, that’s not someone I’m considering for a 7 year deal at 8+ million.

Great post. I'd hate an Ehlers signing. His talent level would be welcome, but in just a year or two he will be another small guy with no net front/boards game or defense, when we are trying to break in Lardis, Kantserov etc who are similar profiles.

Marner is small but he brings the defense. Ehlers is just stats.

I'd love to have this work out just the way you have it - BUT - the first three words of your post - "Trade for Tkachuk" is a pipe dream. It looks like Ottawa is going to make the playoffs for the first time since before their rebuild started in what seems like 20 years ago - why would they trade their arguably best player who is still only 25 and under contract for 3 more years at a reasonable cap hit?

I wouldn't get too excited about him. There's a reason that Utah gave him up for basically a bag of pucks. Steve Peters was on CHGO yesterday and very politely ripped his game to shreds. The gyst: He's not big, strong, fast, or decisive enough for his offensive centric game to play in the NHL.

I'll be a little intrigued if and only if somehow we get Sorensen to go back to Rockford next year and we convince Soderstrom to come back to America after winning the SHL defenseman of the year award to play in Rockford and develop under him. But I find that very unlikely and the kid is already 24.

KK for Howard makes a ton of sense especially when you consider McDonough is currently their 2LD who is 35. If KK is going to figure it out I think it would be in a system like Tampa’s.
