2025 26 Roster…too Soon

I don’t care how good of a season Tavares or Duchene are having. They are coming to a team that isn’t stacked and isn’t going to be able to hide their deficiencies. You give them stupid money, they’re going to fall off a cliff like every mid 30 year old does and then we’re stuck with more shitty vets.

Until this team is fully established, no players in their mid 30s allowed.
I don't think this is the offseason to get aggressive, we should get aggressive when the roster is near complete and its nowhere close, a final piece type move like Hossa. I might make an 8x13.5 offer for Marner and that's it. I'm in favor of more short term deals at inflated AAV's to hit the floor and flipping them for picks/prospects/young players and letting the rebuild end organically over time as more kids enter the lineup, it would happen without going crazy in UFA...and it would do them a big favor to land a few more blue chip core pieces in the draft with more top 10 picks, if they go crazy on mid-tier UFAs there is a real risk it pushes them into the exact no-mans land territory KD was trying to get them out of by blowing up the team in the first place...too mediocre to contend but not bad enough for high picks

To all these forecasts with Marner on a future Hawks roster, I say quit dreaming. Leafs know his worth, he'll re-sign there.

I still say offer-sheet Knies high, to try and end up with Tavares (who we would hafta overpay, but a good play, IMO)

Someone has to get traded, it is going to be Kaiser.
Levshunov, Korchinski, Rinzel, Allan, Del Mastro can all play in the AHL next season without needing to go through Waivers. The Hawks pressing of the issue to trade someone is only really a thing if they draft Schaefer this year.

That is an amazing thought, it gives options. At this point in time the hawks need to be looking at guys that fit the rebuild timeline including their age. Think the blues last year getting Broberg and Holloway.

That is what the hawks need to start acquiring, young budding players in the 24-27 year age range.

Not easy to do but attainable.

How do they afford to do that while keeping the core 4?
Keeping the core 4? Let’s say Tavares takes 8 like Stamkos and Marner gets a matching 13.25 like Matthews. That puts them at 88.5 leaving about 6 million left. They can probably ship out one or two of Domi, Kampf or Jarnkrok and make the money work. The team won’t have room for improvements, but they can keep Knies.

Now if Marner walks? Well keeping Knies is easy for them but they’ll have way bigger issues than that.

With each passing game that team plays this looks more and more like a potential franchise-altering move by them. Talk about striking gold. Each player has exceeded expectations with Brobergs injury being the only minor bump in the road. And as big of an upgrade/improvement as that was for STL its an equally as big of a kick in the nuts to the Oilers.

What sense would it make for those guys to go to the AHL?

I’d have bo issue with Allan or KK starting next year in the AHL. As of right now they simply haven’t earned NHL time, although I’d argue Allan wasn’t given a fair shake.

EDM has played well enough to earn a full time spot. I think Lev and Rinzel need to play poorly enough at the NHL level to give you a reason to send them to the AHL which IMO they haven’t done yet.

I’d hate the idea of sending someone down who is playing well and earned a spot with the big club just because someone else who is worse isn’t waiver exempt.
