2025 26 Roster…too Soon

pregame show specifically mentioned signing Marner this summer...have to hope for Toronto to have a complete implosion in the playoffs and Mitch to say F this I'm out...Rantanen got 12m per so adjusting for state tax that puts Marner around 12.5-13m per if he gets a similar amount to sign with Chicago...maybe there is like a bad team premium on there as well which puts him in the 13.5-14 range to entice him

Did Seravalli say that he thinks we should go after him or does it sound like we will go after him?

Would have to be an overpay, the last teams I am looking at are the ones who have been terrible for a long time and let's face it the Hawks have been a bad to terrible team since the Panarin trade.

They have, but they’ll be turning a corner sooner or later. There’s still a lot of talent to come and assets to spend.

Or, he could go to the Rangers. Where the core is old and declining and the team will at the very least need a retool but most likely a full rebuild and toil with being garbage for the next 5+ years with no end in sight.

Real contenders can’t afford him, so those are the two types of teams you’re looking at joining.

Yeah, just because a team is good now doesn't mean they'll stay that way. Rangers, and a team like Boston, for example have really dropped in just a few short years.

We're bad right now. Awful even. But we're not on the downswing like those teams. We're on an upswing and if we were to sign him for 7 years, he'd likely be on some really competitive squads and be viewed as one of the veterans in the locker room. Original 6 team and big city helps too.

Also baby soft media. He won’t be getting ripped on here like he does in Toronto. That’s goes a long way.

I still don’t think Marner cares about winning and is going to give it his all when games matter most. That’s not worth $12-$14m AAV over 7 years for me.

How long is he going to play at a 25-30g, 90-100pt pace for? He’s got that “I’m checking out after my big pay day” aura ALL OVER HIM

Yeah I just think the price tag is too high.

$12M+ for a guy that isn't even in the top 50 for goals?

He's a great player, just not for that amount.

I think it'd be nice to get either, but I don't really see why any of them would want to unless we start looking a little better.

I'm really curious to see how free agents view different teams this summer. I could see how guys destined for short term deals like Tavares, Duchene, and Nelson would look to join a contender because they don't have rings yet. But for the guys like Marner, Boeser, and Ehlers who are likely to sign for 7 years, the Hawks may be quite the destination. Yeah, year 1 won't be great but by the time years 3 and 4 come around, Chicago will be looking mighty good.

Plus the original 6 heritage, soft media, Chicago being a very livable city all help. I'm not huge on Marner but think about it. If you're him and Toronto ends up not working out, where would be a more attractive place to sign for the next 7 years? Probably none of the Canadian teams. The low tax teams like Dallas, Florida, and Tampa are already capped out. Wanna live in Detroit? Wanna be part of the Rangers or Bruins mess? Colorado could work for a couple of seasons but watch out once McKinnon's speed starts to waver a bit as they have no prospects or draft capital to speak of. Carolina? Maybe. The Ducks have prospects and cap space but do you want to play for that guy and pay California taxes? How about Buffalo? Just kidding.

I might look like a fool this summer but it will be interesting.

don't have much issue paying Marner 8x13, this team needs top line talent badly...but I'm hoping for Misa as well and would not be playing Marner and Bedard together...Whatever combo of Misa/Nazar at center and Bedard/Marner you want to go with on top 2 lines

maybe opening night roster looks like this

Bertuzzi-Misa-Marner
Teravainen-Nazar-Bedard
Moore-Donato-Mikheyev
Slaggert-Reichel-Foglino

Vlasic-Levshunov
Kaiser-Rinzel
Korchinski-Murphy
Del Maestro

Knight
Soderblom

Stan used to talk about team toughness----but you also had Byflugien, Brouwer and Bickell was a big kid. KD better attend to the fact that some teams will take liberties with the youngans if there isn't a deterrent. I always thought Edmundsen was a tough customer and could come in handy as a 7th D man for just that reason, but he's getting up there. Tanner Jeannot, an UFA to be, seems like a reasonable option as well. Spellacy in a couple of years looks like he would cherish that role as well.

Edmundson signed a 4 year deal with la

they already have a glut of defense prospects worth keeping, address the size/toughness issue up front, start with replacing Reichel, Slaggert, etc...But ideally their replacements can play too, no washed up vets in these roles just because

Mitch Marner is SOOOOOO underrated its insane. Hes a walking 95 point selke winger. Davidson may pay him 15 million to come.
