Pronman has the Flyers selecting Caset Mutryn with the 21st pick. He is his scouting report..

Philadelphia loves hard-nosed, competitive players, making Mutryn a very natural fit for their organizational identity. He’s a hardworking, physical 6-foot-3 winger who plays at an NHL tempo and has some offensive touch too. He complements the skill the Flyers have in their forward group.

Didn't they draft enough of this shit the last two years?

And he did perform in WHC-17 aND WJC-18 and we know they watch those games and are lazy when it comes to long-term scouting.

Now, this is an assist:

I’m not saying San Jose has to regret its pick, but Celebrini+Martone would be ridiculous together. Ditto Chicago. Ditto Utah. Your loss.

Too bad we don’t have anyone who could finish on that rocket of a pass…

And now, a word about Luke Vlooswyk, which I'm sure you were all waiting for with baited breath.

Am watching the Memorial Cup with some interest (I always pull for the WHL champ, especially if they're in WA like Everett is) and have noticed that he does bring that sort of shutdown/ wingspan element. He's huge and has that plodding first step, but you all already knew that. He does have some defensive chops, though. Seems to know that his role will be stay at home.

Everett traded for him based on size and "physical presence" but I haven't noticed him doing any dumb shit like running around to prove that he's "beeg". Maybe if he learns how to skate like an NHL'er we'll have something there.

Meanwhile, Landon Dupont is also a defenseman on that team and I am in complete awe at what that kid is going to bring to whatever team drafts him next year. Like, holy shit.

Appreciate the info, and for a 7th round pick, you are basically playing the lottery. But is anyone else getting sick and tired of the "needs to improve/learn how to skate" narrative? I mean, it is like the Flyers scout the roller hockey leagues, never bothering to ask, "By the way, we play our games on ice, can you ice skate?"

That's where the Luchanko pick seems to be so crazy. It was an Opposite-Day pick to grab a centre with plus skating but very little else.

Except for Michov and Martone, who both fell to them (and coincidentally, both are horrible skaters), it seems that every pick in the top 2 rounds have been real "head scratchers".

There goes deadhead’s Monday morning.

Time to play my favorite deady game: “How Many Times Did He Post About a Worthless Prospect!”

26 times. That’s low! Mostly to say he sucked, accusing me of overrating him (despite not once posting about him), and claiming he wasn’t a steal like dearest Gendron (127 times).

Saw a post the other day simultaneously celebrating the anniversary of both the Phantoms' Cup wins (1998 and 2005). It's crazy how, with the exception of a few years, they've been mediocre at best ever since then, and especially since leaving Philly. Meanwhile, their two PA rivals are near-perennial playoff teams.
