All of our forward youths improved their offense after the 4 Nations break. What is surprising is they also improved their +/- rating, which scoring more does help improve.

The thing with McTavish is he's usually playing 3C and 3C minutes. That makes his production impressive because he's always reviving a LW that gets sent to his line like Cutter or Zegras.

If you use Hockey-Reference, you can highlight the area and the pop-up window will give you all the stats. Just use 60 seconds x ATOI decimal number to figure out the seconds for the average TOI. Example: 15.9 is 15 minutes and 9/10. 60 sec x 0.9 = 54 seconds. Thus 15.9 is translated as 15:54 TOI. The TOI doesn't do the breakdown of ES TOI, PP TOI, PK TOI, or 6v5 TOI.

Leo's ATOI
Pre 4N: 15.9 or (15:54)
Post 4N: 16.8 (or 16:48)

Mac's ATOI
Pre 4N: 16.4 or (16:24)
Post 4N: 17.7 (or 17:42)

We should add the quality of talent around them. Leo is often surrounded by better talent than Mac. Mac helped to bring up Cutter's play and then Cutter gets promoted once Cutter started getting hot. And then Mac had to revive Zegras as well. Hell, Mac was brought up to Leo's line to help jumpstart Leo. Colangelo was a 4th liner for most of the pre 4N, but a 3rd liner post 4N and sometimes Lundy centering him.

How’d you end up at 28? He’s 22 now — eight years puts him at 30. We all know nothing good happens after 30… or is it 40? I forget.

After 30 is typical decline but still young enough guys are asking for big term still. 28 is the average ufa age. I still prefer 25 vs 30. At 25-33 his next contrwct after that would likely be shorter and more representative of his decline where as resigning again at 28-30 you're looking prime age production numbers still.
