I'd rather give him an 8 year deal at 25 then at 28If we bridge him, he’ll cost a whole lot more, me thinks.
I think you should add time on ice to this. All of our forward youths improved their offense after the 4 Nations break. What is surprising is they also improved their +/- rating, which scoring more does help improve.
The thing with McTavish is he's usually playing 3C and 3C minutes. That makes his production impressive because he's always reviving a LW that gets sent to his line like Cutter or Zegras.

Pre 4 nations / post 4 nations / season
Leo - 16.04 16.31. 16.14
McT - 16.31. 17.29. 16.53
Cutter - 14.17. 13.53. 14.09
Zegras - 17.02. 17.03. 17.02
Sam - 11.21. 13.10. 12.29
If I did math right, which is highly likely I didn’t.

After 30 is typical decline but still young enough guys are asking for big term still. 28 is the average ufa age. I still prefer 25 vs 30. At 25-33 his next contrwct after that would likely be shorter and more representative of his decline where as resigning again at 28-30 you're looking prime age production numbers still. How’d you end up at 28? He’s 22 now — eight years puts him at 30. We all know nothing good happens after 30… or is it 40? I forget.
