I thought the OUA deserved their own separate thread.

As noted in the recruit thread, McGill had a very strong recruiting class. Kept most of their roster including goaltenders. They have to considered heavy favorites for the OUA title. Note - They will be playing their home games at the Place Bell practice arena this season as the McConnell arena is undergoing renovations.

The UCup hosts Ottawa Gee-Gees should at least challenge for a top two spot in the OUA East. They did lose their top two recruits to the pros but didn't have any big loses over the past season. UQTR is not as strong this season but still have plenty of veterans. Concordia, Queens and Ontario Tech have an outside shot as well.

OUA West is definitely the weaker division. Brock and UofT should be considered the top two favorites. TMU lost some of their better players so I don't expect them to be back.

The wild West lacks the high-end teams, but it'll be the most competitive and parity-rich division in the country. Only two weekends in, and every team but one (2-1-0 Western) already has two losses. 🍿🍿🍿

Ottawa over McGill 5-1. A potential OUA East playoff matchup. The game was a lot closer than the score would indicated. GeeGees netminder Franky Lapenna (OUA East goaltender of the year last season) stopped 33 of 34. Third period was penalty filled with two game misconducts being handed out.

Just noticed: The Usports website lists Nipissing back to the east and York back to the west. I don't often use that site, but did they miss this last year or did I miss something? Nipissing has a west-baaed schedule in any event.

The OUA website has both in their correct divisions.

OUA East is jammed at the top. Four teams with 5-1 records. Concordia in first as they have not lost yet in regulation. They host McGill on Wednesday. Concordia does a pretty good broadcast.

OUA East is probably the most competitive conference in the country. With going down to 6 teans in the playoffs, you will have a good team on the outside looking in. Not to mention that if you let your guard down or feel like not competiting, RMC will take points off you or surprise you with a win

What's up with Carleton looks like they have a decent roster but we walked all over them tonight. It was only 5-1 but it could have been double that

Not sure. They also just got smoked 10-1 by Concordia.

Good win by the Thunderwolves. Hope they can finally challenge in the OUA West this season.

In the OUA West there is a three way tie for first place between Western, Brock and Guelph. Western has two games in hand. It is early but it looks like the Mustangs might be getting good again.

OUIT Ridgebacks over UQTR 5-2. I expect the Pats to be a playoff contender, but they did have a healthy offseason turnover.
Concordia over McGill 3-1.

Concordia beat McGill again today 7-3. They are the top team in the OUA this year with only one overtime loss. The only other team in the country not to lose in regulation is UNB.

Pleased to see Ontario Tech playing well. And I have a theory why. It seems that the OUA teams that make the effort to travel to Fredericton and play UNB in the preseason tend to do better that season. My hunch is that the opportunity to play UNB serves as a measuring stick, and even if they get lit up the coaches and players use it as a learning opportunity. You get better by playing good teams, right?

That's why DAL has improved so much, losing 5-0, 6-0, 6-2, 7-1, 6-1, 5-1, 11-1, 10-3, 7-3, 8-0 playing better teams.

I understand wanting to play better teams to see how you match up, but if you don't have the talent you're not going to succeed.

I'll leave it to someone else to look up other teams who have played UNB preseason, to see how their year went.

Lakehead 9-1 over Guelph tonight

The OUA West is really up for grabs. No real strong contenders. Would like to see the Thunderwolves back at the Nationals.

Carleton beats Ottawa in back to back games on the weekend. Gee Gees don't look any stronger than last year. Not looking good for the National hosts

In the OUA East, UQTR is currently tied for the last playoff spot with Carleton. McGill only one point ahead of both. Looks like a big name team could end up missing the playoffs.

I have to say that the Lakehead stream for their home games has vastly improved. From the quality of the stream to the audio. It used to be unwatchable.

The OUA west playoff picture is...messy, to say the least. No team has clinched a playoff spot with only three weekends left in the season.
The top 8 teams all have point PCTs between .614 and .500, and they all have at least one crossover game (which have been dominated by the east this season).
Guelph looks to have the toughest road, as they're 1 pt out of a playoff spot, with 5 of their last 6 against East teams (RMC, QUE, UQTR, McG, OTT).
TMU has just one east team left, already has the top point pct in the west. Western has three tough east crossovers as well, which will not only decide their fate, but will go a long way in figuring out who might miss on the east side of the bracket too.

This might very well happen, but don't count out a possible slide down the standings from Ontario Tech - they're only four pts up on UQTR/CU for the last spot, but both have a game in hand.
OnTech has York on the schedule next, but then finishes with two against Concordia, then Carleton and McGill. Tense times for the Ridgebacks.

Caught a bit of OUA history yesterday. Decided to check in on the McGill vs Western game. The Mustangs tied it up with under a minute left and nothing was decided in overtime. The shootout went 14 rounds. 28 shooters before a single goal was scored. According to the OUA website it is a conference record.

Looking at the schedule, UofT hosts TMU at 11am on Thursday. Pretty odd time. Probably busing in school kids to watch the game.

I’d have to imagine, unless maybe the 4 girlfriends who attend games are busy so they scheduled around that.
