Jet did not want to go to OS, so… More likely the wolves draft Kash and trade him to Brantford. It might actually be a good time for the wolves to try taking advantage of the defect rule.

Jet was going to OS until the ownership change when he advised that he wasn't going. To the best of my knowledge, Kash will report anywhere but using the defect rule this year is not a bad idea. If he is adamant on going to Brantford, someone in the top 10 will pick him and trade him.

On this topic of players stepping up, who can the Wolves move? Who helps the team win? Who has trade value? Who is a place holder?
Bubble Players:
Doucet
Kostuch
Walker
Provorov
Dean
Berehowsky
O’Dell
Ladds
Smith
Wreggitt
Frasca
Brehmer

Thoughts?

Doucet- physical but slow, no trade value, definitely on the bubble
Kostuch- fast but limited, no trade value, on bubble but should see what he looks like after his surgeries
Walker- likely has a bottom six spot this year, little trade value
Provorov-middle six player this year, needs to improve defensively, will have trade value but would prefer to keep
Dean- fast, good pk but hands need to catch up to his feet, little trade value as there is a lot like him in the O but not too eager to trade him
Berehowsky- smart player but doesn't do anything outstanding, not very physical, IMO not an OA on this team as too much forward depth, might get late round pick for him
O'Dell- good defensive D but has hard time handling bigger players which is what you would expect from an OA defenseman. Not in top 4 right now, might get a late round pick
Ladds- Didn't see enough from him due to injury, deserves another look once healthy, no trade value
Smith- good physicality and good defensive abilities. poor but improving skater. May have trade value in training camp if improved mobility
Wreggitt- no trade value right now, may be like Will Bishop once he grows into his body
Frasca- would be the best trade chip the Wolves have as most teams need goaltending, wont get as much as Leenders/Egorov did but value is there. If Bronas unexpectedly left, I would be happy to keep him with Leonard as a tandem
Brehmer- junior A guy, no OA or trade value

Great review. Agree for the most part of this assessment. Walker could surprise but if he makes the team he will be 4th line or 13/14 forward.
Ladds easily replaces older O’Dell and is a right shot.
Berehowsky OA ? Not sure. Team has time to assess at camp. Same as Frasca. We had 8 goalies last year, I’m sure we can run with three for awhile to better assess Leonard.
Torn on Dean, his skating is elite and a Very Good PL guy. I saw more of an edge with him last season..
Doucet? I don’t think foot speed is there, but he brings a level of fearlessness and physicality few bring..perhaps it’s time for a fresh start..
Let’s see who the Wolves add tonight.

I’ll assume Provorov (~55 lbs lighter than brother) continues to add weight and becomes a very effective player for the wolves.
I think Berehowsky is a pretty smart player as well. He did a lot of things well enough like chip in on PP2, he is probably still improving, the only potential returning natural RW or even right shot forward that I am aware of, and being the kid of a coach should not hurt his chances of returning too much. I hope he gets a real chance to show he can help the wolves in a middle six role this season.

Going out on a limb, wolves select a right shot forward round one 🤣

Just a thought here, say the Wolves draft Kash do they then turn around and approach the Bulldogs for Jet?

Flip import firsts with them.

Essentially the start of it would be

Jet and 2027 import 1st for our 2026 import 1st. Not sure how the rest would work out.
could see them doing that in january

Tonight? I will also make my guess that an U18 RHDman is picked first by Wolves.

No, I meant OHL priority draft.
Because of the influx of US born and unusual amount of Russian and US 16U selected in the priority draft a year ago, and the fact that ‘09 rookies seemed pretty good; the ‘09 born ON talent available in the U18 draft might be greater than usual.

I agree

Hopefully the wolves take a good player in the first round of the U18 this year and not just someone related to an NHLer like they did with Sutton Maltby last year who showed 0 in camp and then showed slightly more then 0 with Waterloo in the GOJHL.

Wolves have had pretty consistent success in the U18 draft, one of the few areas where they seem to be among the best in the OHL.

RHD, and a solid one at that, I believe he was just selected in the USHL draft as well, so we'll see if he reports.

Edit: Was last years USHL draft, same USHL team as Thaddeus McMahon another wolves prospect

Goalie with fairly limited stats in the 2nd, which means they will be selecting again in the 3rd. Late 09 so Definitely one of the younger players taken
