Walton, Villy and Coughlan are a perfect fit for the Spits. Take the whole line. While you add it look hard at Gonchar to run your PP. Common BB make it happen. Time for a Western counter punch.
What might that cost? Hicks, McLaughlin, 4 2nds, 4 3rds, 4 4ths ?

Barrie did it last year with Romani, Van Steensel, Wakely
The core of the colts team were ‘06s though. A bit like the steelheads, the colts forced a run a bit early. But with NCAA uncertainty, trying to contend prematurely likely becomes more frequent.

I hope not lol I'm thinking more like Hicks, Lemieux, Harvey, 2x 2nd, 3x 3rd, 2x 4th, 5th, 6th. Even that might be pushing it.
Villeneuve - Lemieux, 2, 2, 4, 4
Walton - Harvey, 2, 3, 3, 5, 5
Coughlan - 3, 4, 5

Keep Hicks. Or Hicks and pick(s) for Blonda.

I'm not sure there's a Sudbury D that I'd make a deal for. I want either a big, nasty veteran guy or a top-pairing veteran... and they don't have either right now.
And (I’m) not at all interested in ‘08 RD Hicks having ‘08 RD Blonda. The right shot of Harvey is of interest.

thank for helping Papineau with this, if it comes through he owes you for consultation fees. He needs all the help he can get.
Paps should get a ring from Brantford if they end up winning the mem cup.

Pieces from the Roberts and NVV trades have been in the Malhotra, McCue, Danford + Sandhu trade and the Jett Luchanko trade. This in addition to them having Protz.

So embarrassing looking at these trades from Paps, and masterful work from Brantford acquiring and parlaying these assets into solidifying their team into bonafide contenders.

2024 - Paps gave up:
Protz
2nd 26
2nd 27
3rd 27
for Van Vliet (bottom end defender)

2025 - Paps gave up:
2nd 27
2nd 28
3rd 26
3rd 28
for Roberts (bottom end defender)

Let that sink in. Someone explain this to Dario please.

Those two deals along with the Mews deal, Giroux deal, and Vandenburg deal are not Papineau's greatest moments. Toss in not capitalizing on Musty, Delic and McCoy at the deadline last year stings.

Can you ring up deals he made that went Sudbury's way howlman?

No deals that I can think of that ever made the Sudbury Wolves true contenders.

The Sokolov deal? Oh wait.. I guess that deal helped us tank to get Byfield/Ukko..

Those are some good ones. What did they amount to? Results based - Paps has failed. Time for change
I think this deadline will be the last kick of the can. Paps absolutely has to hit a Grand Slam or multiple Grand Slams prior to the deadline.
We may never know but I’m curious about the decision not to sell last season, was it Paps or Dario’s. I’ve heard from enough people the NVV trade was requested by KMac. No more trades pls with the Bulldogs.

There were people that reported that Paps screwed that up and pissed people off. Stillman was supposed to end up in London but because he took too long the 2nd trade never got done.
Those are the risks when you make trades minutes from the deadline. Didn’t hurt Stillman too much he played in MCup and was a 1st round NHL pick

Oh and let this part sink in off those picks.

NVV picks were 2026 Flint 2nd, 2027 Kingston 2nd and 2027 Flint 3rd

Roberts was 2026 Sudbury 3rd, 2027 Kitchener 2nd, 2028 Sudbury 2nd and 2028 Sudbury 3rd

Brantford sent the 2026 Flint 2nd to Kingston as highest pick for Malhotra

2026 Sudbury 3rd and 2027 Flint 3rd to Flint for McCue (2nd and 3rd highest picks in that trade)

2027 Kingston 2nd and 2028 Sudbury 3rd to Oshawa for Danford and Sandhu

Last but not least 2027 Kitchener 2nd and 2028 Sudbury 2nd to Guelph for Luchanko again top 2 picks in the deal.

Stillman deal to Petes
Kostuch deal is a great value deal especially if he returns for an OA season. Regan OGrady was decent. Holmes to Kingston was good, Pezzetta to Sarnia was good. Ruzicka deal was good. McCoy and DeAnglios deal was good, Blaisdel deal was good

Didn't like Stratis to Sarnia for a 4th, Liponov for Sokolov and a 4th was not great. We gave up alot to get Pekar from Barrie.

Some hit and misses over the years. I guess its easy for us to say what was good or bad but we will never know what kind of market he was dealing with. It just seems anytime we want to buy we have to give up a ton but when we sell its not to our liking.

I wish those deals never happened as well as the Mews deal. Those three hurt the most. We would still have Protz and Jackson and all those picks. Then if we dealt McCoy and Delic along with Musty last year we would have even more picks and some players on this roster. We would be the team dealing like Brantford and making a run with Villy and Walton. Don't want to rehash this all the time as we have to get over it and build right from this point. Starts with dealing all vets this year.

On one hand, this got them Walton which is great, on the other hand it got them Pharand...

Papineau does his best work dumpster diving. Yearwood, Coughlan, Signoretti, etc. Whenever he's traidng for or away for meaningful pieces he generally gets taken to the cleaners.

Some significant off season moves shaking up the scouting, bringing Dave Gray on board, putting Jeff Forsyth into the ass't GM slot and naming Brent Gauvreau as Dir of Player Development all point to the possibility that Mr Papineau himself might also be aware that the results in a results oriented business aren't what they need to be. It looks to me like a much more solid front office, the coaching staff is hopefully stabilized and all of this just in time to square up to the new influence the NCAA now have on rosters, turnover, development paths and choices that players/parents/agents have in front of them. Voice of one (me) says this might not be the time to blow up the brain trust and start from scratch both on and off the ice.

Papineau has had 10 years, does he really need another 10 to prove he's bad at his job? I've seen no signs that Berehowsky can teach d-men who to play in the defensive zone either, not in his first stint with the wolves, nor with this one.
