Speculation: 2025-2026 Offseason Thread 4 - all these trades and all we got was this lousy thread!

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
We're seriously about to spend $16 million on *THE WORST* free agency class I've ever seen. Holy f***
Honestly, I'm becoming increasingly convinced that A. we will leave some cap for a midseason trade possibility or B. we will sign players to deals that can be moved and used as assets in the future. And honestly, I've said it before, but how many of the teams buying right now aren't going to have serious buyer's remorse in a few years?

So do we think Tuch signing makes it more or less likely Ovechkin signs for another year in Washington?

*IF* we can get Carlson maybe he'd sign with us for cheap to be a power play specialist with Kuch and Carlson? Would certainly be an upgrade on what was our weakest facet of the game last year.

Don't think that the best free agent available will come cheap at this point.

Hard pass on Carlson still. Would rather just keep the money for TDL or next off season since this year is looking like a complete write off

When I say I'm disappointed in JBB, it's that he hasn't even managed to make some crafty little trade like this. Not that he hasn't acquired some expensive megastar

I’ll throw up if we give Carlson like 2x9 then meet NYR asking demands of Geekie +1st + Gage for Trocheck

And that seems like a very real possibility. Fits the cap space (with a Paul trade) and needs. And JBB isn’t gonna sit on his hands. He never does.

That’s gonna be the price for Carlson I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 2 years 10 AAV

I’m sure everyone here would love JBB trading 2 former first round picks for 3rd liner

Trocheck would be a fine add, as he's solid on face-offs, adds scoring and takes pressure off of Point. The cost to acquire may be too rich for JBB, depending on how he views Geekie and/or SOR, but adding him gives Tampa a top 6 C with term that fits their window (and unlike Larkin, is a player Tampa could actually afford without giving everythi g up).

Tuch may not have preferred Tampa, or more likely, just wanted the biggest bag possible. I very much doubt JBB was ever paying him 8 figures, which is clearly the minimum of what he was willing to take.

Buffalo seems to be working on a deal for him. Who's next down the list? We're clearly at the "spinning our wheels" level of players now.

I don't blame jbb not wanting to make the payments necessary to keep raddysh or get Tuch. I think his recent trades are definitely prone to criticism and deserves it. Sounds like he will need a solid trade to make up for it.

If Trocheck goes elsewhere, and if a C remains a high priority, ROR, Frost, maybe one of Wright or McTavish if a trade could be figured out. With 5 out of the top 6 spots well set for next year, whether he adds some bigger name or goes for a couple lower aav guys to boost the middle 6, in addition to having possibly both Geekie/SOR make an impact this season, that is also fine. If Tampa can establish a bottom 6 that can contribute more, it takes some additional pressure off of the top 6 and adds even more depth for opponents to worry about. The main guys will ha e to produce some more if they want to win another title, of course, but if they had 3 lines or even 4 capable of providing some reliability in scoring, that also changes things as well.

So....are people finally coming around to where me and Sky have been at for a while? Like you all see this shit right? Basically make us a playoff team for the short term and hope we get lucky or start to try to move players and start the re-tool/rebuild.

I'd still pay for ROR if he'd be willing to leave. And his contract is so good we could still make another move or two.

I mean, when Raddysh left, where else is there to be? My guess is we do what we can for two more years and then sell off. A lot of guys will still have good value to a contending team.

Insane contract for Tuch, thank goodness we didn't go after him.

I wanted raddysh or tuch but those prices were more than I was hoping for us. You have to pay to get right now..really hoping we don't over pay for Carlson as well.

Im definitely now in the camp of retool/rebuild if we're not adding high end, impact players. It doesn't seem like we are. I'm not in favor of adding more "depth" like JTBF is mentioning above. I think forward depth and Carlson are wastes of time at this point. Just start cutting bait now. The teams around us are adding TOP END talent.

There is ZERO indication that either Point or Hedman will/can produce at the level we need them to in order for us to go on a run. When we Have most of our team as untradeable, and no 1st round picks, we're left with little choices on the trade market.

We might just be un a position to patch a couple holes and sell jerseys for the next year or two.
