Speculation: 2025-2026 Offseason Thread 4 - all these trades and all we got was this lousy thread!

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
We are cooked and it’s two more years of first round exits then the big sell off. Only way that doesn’t happen is if somehow out of nowhere like our 3 best prospects all become top 6 level plus we find a dman plus Vasy stays decent plus plus.

It’s so over. Rebuild time, get out Hagel you can still win somewhere.

So....are people finally coming around to where me and Sky have been at for a while? Like you all see this shit right? Basically make us a playoff team for the short term and hope we get lucky or start to try to move players and start the re-tool/rebuild.

We are more than a playoff team. Problem is Vasilevskiy and Kucherov haven't been good enough playoff time. Let alone others like Point, Cirelli and this year Hedman who also didn't show. If you cant get even average goaltending you aint gonna win. If your top 3 player in the league doesn't score any goals, you ain't gonna win. You can blame BriseBois for things but playoff failure isnt on him, it's on the players and then Cooper.

We're in a bad spot with the market, but not completely cooked yet.

If we don't have an extension to announce for Kucherov at 12:01 pm on July 1st, we are cooked though

Has JBB circled back to re-signing Bjorkstrand yet? Maybe hes checking the value of Luke Evangelista and trying to acquire him via trade. Lest we forget, we are two middle six options away from contending.

Im definitely now in the camp of retool/rebuild if we're not adding high end, impact players. It doesn't seem like we are. I'm not in favor of adding more "depth" like JTBF is mentioning above. I think forward depth and Carlson are wastes of time at this point. Just start cutting bait now. The teams around us are adding TOP END talent.

There is ZERO indication that either Point or Hedman will/can produce at the level we need them to in order for us to go on a run. When we Have most of our team as untradeable, and no 1st round picks, we're left with little choices on the trade market.

We might just be un a position to patch a couple holes and sell jerseys for the next year or two.
Improving the middle 6 with better depth and/or having a couple of younger guys take a step is certainly a path. Carolina just won a cup with not so much a roster with any real superstars, but a very well rounded F group. Tampa already has the big name players who are going nowhere, so yes, adding better pieces around them is a way to go. JBB was never paying these exorbitant aav numbers or trade prices, but it doesn't mean that players who can definitely help, both at F and D, aren't available via trade or ufa. He may also still make a splash move, as it's still a week until ufa. Either way, the team isn't at a point where it appears anyone in leadership feels some massive re-tool or re-build is imminent.

Marchment, Johnston, Duhaime. Sign them, JBB
Both Marchment and Duhaime seem interesting, one as a top 6/middle 6 type, and Duhaime for the bottom 6. Another Jacket, Jenner, could be an option for a C add as well, although I'd put him below a few other options.

You dont know this. They could very well think that. We just might have our hands tied with all the NMCs. They also might be extremely hesitant to sing long term deals at this point - opting for high AAV, short term like Carlson.

I'm not buying the Carolina comparison. They're a bit younger than us and their guys were still extremely hungry for their first cup. Way different situation than guys like Kuch, Point, Hedman, McD, etc.
