2025-2026 Offseason Thread 4 - all these trades and all we got was this lousy thread!

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I'll just keep making stupid images while I wait....

We are being left behind and wasted our best chance last year. If we had done f***ing anything or if the washed got their cups and cash crew had given a singular f*** we could’ve beat Vegas too.

Now we’re looking like the 5th-6th best team in division and will be lucky to have Carolina or Florida belt to ass us in 5 in the wildcard in 2027. My f***.

Let’s spend another first on the corpse of god knows who next.

Mcdavid for crozier, 3 1sts, Hagel and sor. f*** it

Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski and Kirill Marchenko join Trade Targets board

Here is Frank’s trade board and where centers rank.

1) Larkin
8) McTavish
9) Trocheck
16) Pettersson
18) Hertl
21) Yurov
22) Wright
27) Frost
31) Kuraly

I was cautiously optimistic about getting Larkin, but after seeing Byram get what he got, I think that dream is all but dead. Gut tells me it’s a big trade with Dallas involving Robertson.

McTavish and Wright would be interesting if those teams were looking for futures. But all reports say they want to use them to get higher end talent. Takes us out.

Trocheck is feasible but the ask (reportedly) is top prospect, 1st round, and roster player. Would it be really worth it to send Geekie, 2028 1st and Gage for a 33yo middle six guy? I know JBB will overpay, but that should be too much, even for him. Rather just go after Jenner for free and hope his body lasts for the playoffs.

Which brings me maybe the best and realistic options from his board - Hertl, Frost, and Pettersson. All of them have their warts and list of reasons not to touch, but who can we actually get that’s better in this market? Im still convinced he wants a center and wouldn’t go after Tuch unless it was a last resort.

Hertl feels like he would be a salary dump by Vegas. He’d cost next to nothing and Vegas may even give us a 3rd or something to take him off their hands. Cap isn’t even that bad to where you can still go after Carlson.

Frost has the same pros as Hertl - low cap and shouldn’t drain all your best assets so you could get him and still chase top Raddysh replacements. But not the constant/reliable production I think JBB would go after.

With new Vancouver management reportedly willing to eat 2-3 million to help facilitate a Pettersson trade, why not him? People here definitely know more about what’s gone wrong in Vancouver than me (I just know he and Miller HATED each other). Just reading around, it seems whatever has happened in Vancouver has killed his love and passion for the game and his decline is more mental and physical. Assuming we can offer something Vancouver wants and he would waive here, can we really get anything better?

Problem is that with 32 teams out there, probably 20-25 could use a good 2C. How many teams are really stacked at 1C and 2C? Edmonton? Colorado? Florida? I feel like the list is basically over right there. Carolina had to move a winger to 2C and wound up winning it all. I think you could argue that our problem (or at least the more fixable problem) is that only like 4 of our guys are capable of scoring in the playoffs right now. You could try to fix that by A. getting a star forward like Tuch or B. getting some guys who can legitimately shoot the puck or finish plays in the bottom 6. I think B is kind of a requirement regardless, but I'm not really opposed to A.
Tuch didn't score in the playoffs either.

We shot a lot. We struggled to get shots through. I do think size is an issue, but we also could use a C. Yeah, so can everyone else. Maybe SOR comes to the rescue, but that's a lot to put on a rookie. I think that's why so many of us started picturing the line up with Larkin--it's rare that these guys come available. But man, I really don't like that he was a captain who quit on his team publicly. McTavish?

Geekie at max realization of potential would be perfect.

Oh, I'm by no means a gigantic Tuch truther, but the team is better with him than without him. I don't know. It's a tough offseason to have this sort of fork in the road.

I would advocate trading Point if I could be sure we weren't getting back pennies on the dollar and he wasn't (sometimes) showing his old flashes of life. The problem is we can find half a dozen dudes whose responsibility is to shut a game down. Will they do as well as Cirelli? Eh. Probably not. But it will at least come with the clear distinction of not relying on him for offense. Of all the things to happen I think someone trading Tampa clear 1C for Point is the least of them.

I absolutely cannot believe I'm saying this but it's starting to feel like McDavid or bust
It's not that easy to find centers who can shut down top players on a nightly basis. Getting 50 points out of him is great. Probably 40-45 in the 3rd line role he's more suited to. Cirelli as 3c and Gourde as 4c is a dream scenario.

Rumors are starting to circulating that McDavid is planning to stay in Edmonton long term. I don't think that one is very realistic.

Hagel and Moser are so good and young and it’s too bad we can’t make something of that. By the time we’ve given up on this chasing contender status by pretending these shitty deadline and free agency moves will matter at all it’ll be too late for them.

They’ll be very good pieces to move in about 2030 when they’re 29-30 and we can get multiple firsts for them. The rebuild is 2 years away and we’re just gonna pretend we can contend the next 2 years I guess

Puljujarvi is a bit larger. Puljujarvi averages 0.4 more SOG/game, 0.03 more goals per game, 0.04 more assists per game. Girgensons averages 0.5 more hits/game, shoots at a 0.3% percent better rate. Girgensons has also played ~400 more games. These stats are pretty dang close, man. Play style might be different, sure. I don't think Puljujarvi is some kind of monster even on his best day. He's practically within a whisker of Girgensons in a way smaller sample size and playing on more talented teams for most of his career.

You’re pointing out quantitative data, if those numbers were good he wouldn’t be available right now. I already said he hasn’t put it together yet.

My entire argument is about qualitative data, which you didn’t respond to. Talent/physical ability between girgs and PoolP isn’t comparable

I don't know exactly how Puljujarvi plays, so I passed to comment on his specific play style.

Offensive talent-wise, I would imagine it's kind of hard to be lower on that spectrum than Girgensons, but I think you could argue he does have talent on the defensive side. He certainly has a strong IQ in his own end and defending the rush, at least to me.
