2025-2026 Offseason Thread 4 - all these trades and all we got was this lousy thread!

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
People want JBB to make a move. See's prices and makes move, complain that all the prospects and remaining draft capital is gone. Continue loop of crying of dumb trades and no cap space with NMCs everywhere. Let the cycle continue.

I think we'll see a shakeup, not just adding a piece at the cost of assets we don't have.

Yeah. We have cap space; we will spend it.

It's June. The draft hasn't even happened yet. I think people are just seeing other teams move and they're like "well clearly he's not gonna do anything." This is like Minute #1 of the off-season.

I'll speak for myself and just say that I worry because of this year's trade deadline. He obviously thought highly of the team, and had good reason to, and let things be because the prices were steep. I'm just worried that his outlook may not have changed much.

Right, but half the board is also still bringing up the Jeannot trade. Would we rather he overpay (with no assets, that means SOR and Geekie)? I think the same people would be complaining. @DistantThunderRep had it right.

It's not like I'm happy about the off-season so far. Really thought, and think, Raddysh was our best option. But the idea that JBB has to have the team built a week before UFA even opens is just a little much.

Bang on. It makes no sense

We can't sell if we tried right now. We have SOR, Gonzo and Geekie and that is it chief. The rest of the squad is sitting on trade protection. The stories of Kucherov practicing in his basement all summer is gonna hit harder than the first morning cigarette

Yeaaaahhhh baby!

I was bringing up the Jeannot trade just in reference to people talking about Mathieu Olivier. I'm fine with JBB taking a swing at a guy he really wants if they make sense for the team like Jeannot did at the time.

I think it's the perception that JBB has already decided on what he wants the roster the look like by minute 1 of the offseason as opposed to keeping the options fluid.

Like I sat there for 2 hours and said "You guys ready to watch us draft Nolan Foote?" on draft day because it was so painfully obvious that was what we were going to do. Our front office has a near determental habit of fixating on a player. If we turn around and throw $10 million at John effing Carlson it's gonna be the funniest shit we have ever done. Because I am borderline espousing conspiracy theories over here and that would borderline legitimize them in broad daylight

As proven before, trade protection doesn't mean the player won't be traded.
At this point I'm hoping it's Cirelli. I'm done dude. 1 goal in his last 17 playoff games and the annual 30 game stretch where he can't score at all has just become too much for me. Like how bad can a guy like McTavish possibly be while stapled to Hagel's ass 16 minutes a night?

Like I am NOT suggesting that is what we ACTUALLY do. It's a purely hypothetical shit post that encompasses the kind of changes I want to see

Maybe Buffalo trades #4 to Toronto for Knies to replace Tuch. Toronto is probably not rebuilding at this point though, McKenna made that a short trip, as evidenced by trading for Raddysh

Jesse Puljujarvi is such an intriguing player

Pulju will live off of his draft status for the rest of his life. If that guy was a 4th round pick instead of 4th overall, no one would ever talk about him again

I mean the latent talent and tools are there. Another classic case of all the tools but not toolbox. I'd like to think we could fix him though. Righty shot too

It's not as if he's gone from one terrible team to another. He's had his shot in Edmonton, Carolina, Pittsburgh and Florida and played with some of the best players in the world. If there was a way to fix him, at least one of those teams would've done so already.

I feel like he'd have made it here by now if we thought we could fix him

Thing is, Mctavish is more expensive than Cirelli, might not drop 25ish goals a year, and probably won’t be in the running for Selke. If Anaheim wants to do Mctavish +, then fine, but otherwise I think we are dogpiling on Cirelli for very little reason. Is he a great 2C? Not really. Would he be an amazing 3C? Definitely. For the money, though, it’s hard to do much better. I think we could do better to ship Point and get McTavish and maybe Mintyukov if Anaheim would do that. But I don’t know if it fixes a whole lot. More just a shakeup. Probably makes more sense to just use the cap space on a winger

TV Coverage of the July 1st signings is going to be even more boring than usual. Talking heads trying to fill 4 hours of almost no new content.

Was he even that good before he was “broken?” Would much rather take a chance on Laine.

It'll work for us though
