The WNBA had their draft last night, and I got us (me) a WNBA thread prefix, so we (I) am going to use it. Obviously Caitlin Clark went 1OV to the Indiana Fever, who overnight become the marquee team in the league. 36 of their 40 games will be nationally televised.

Season starts May 14.

Increased interest has also fueled expansion talk. Golden State is entering the league next year, and there's been no shortage of interested markets. It's the one league that's really underserved given their talent level.

My guess is all that stuff she does, there’s a decent possibility she just wears out. It’s another 40-game season with no offseason and much tougher competition. And I’d guess there’s a good chance she goes to the Olympics too just because they’ll want her there.

If they are, they will soon find that they shouldn’t care.
They should play hard against her to win. That's expected, but they should look at the economics of the WNBA and realize they need to capitalize on Clark to grow the game. She'll get a lo of attention, which for their league, could draw more eyeballs to their games and thus increase revenue.

She was on with McAfee and hinted that she could do a weekly segment with him since they will both be based in Indy. Great exposure for their league if that occurs. PK Subban goes on Pat's show, but that isn't the same as if Sid or McDavid or Bedard did the show.

Heh, women are not wired like that. I've seen it a 1000X over in the corporate world, women will absolute screw over another woman, even at the benefit of a man, just to make sure another woman doesn't get ahead.

That being said:

20 and 10 - turnovers - for Caitlin Clark in her debut. Took nearly the entire first half to score. Willing to bet that will improve!

2023 WNBA season

2 divisions of 6 teams

the top two teams in each division played above 0.500. The remaining 4 did not.

so 4 teams were above 0.500, 8 teams were below. 40 game season.. 3 teams failed to get to 15 wins.

The WNBA is the only league that did not have a minimum of 1/2 of their teams be at 0.500 or higher. (both men and women)

The NWSL by comparison, has 12 teams, 6 were at 0.500 or better.

Ridiculously stratified league:
The final 4 teams were the top 2 in each division. The top seed in each division, more or less thrashed the 2nd seed.
One round earlier, all the higher seeds, thrashed the lower seeds.

Comish Englebert has some work to do.

Brynna Maxwell was waived after being injured.

13th overall pick.

It's okay I haven't had a chance to watch any yet but Clark herself is raising the profile of the sport and putting a lot of eyeballs on her games

that said, going 0-2 to start off her career and finishing in single digits last game is not a good look

the hatte towards clark by fans and even fellow wnba players is abit much yea the media hyped her up but its sad to see even fellow wnba making comments like they are i guess the phraise woman allways try to tear each other down is living true in the wnba anyway. I hope she turns good and becomes wnba next player by the time shes 26-27. i support her

She had a full college season right into a WNBA season. She’s having to adjust to a much higher level of competition with basically zero offseason.
