OT: 2024 Washington Commanders thread: change we can believe in!

Nice mock, and we have enough holes that we can go almost anywhere that the BPA lands at our spot, but for me personally, I think we need to be focusing on the defense the most. There's a handful of physical freaks that might be available when we pick at 29 and at 60. But these guys also have the production to back it up, they aren't just combine wonders.

S Nick Emannwori - Sean Taylor size/speed/aggression type athlete, with decent but not Sean's complete instincts. 6'3'' 235# and a 4.38 40. Hits like a train and covers well. 1st or second round.
Edge Princely Umanlemielen - Freak pass rusher athlete with experience, production and tons of upside. 1st round likely.
WR Jayden Higgins - 6'4'' 215 lb WR with great routes, great hands, contested catch beast. 2nd round maybe. Never drops a pass and wins the contested battles most every time. Fast as Terry as well.
LT - Wyatt Millum - 6'6'' 317, ~2200 snaps in college all at LOT, ZERO Sacks allowed ever! Just one hit (three years ago) And almost no hurries either. 1st round. Mean run blocker too.
DE/Edge Nick Scourton - 6'4'' 285 lb run stuffing DE with solid pass rush skills. likely 1st.
DE/Edge Landon JAckson - 6'7'' 280 lbs, same deal as Nick.
CBs Trey Amos, Shavon Revel or Darrien Porter - Big dudes who can cover well, maybe be better matchups for an AJ Brown type WR. All around pick 30.

If we go offense it has to be WR or OT. Our two tackles ranked 56 and 61 in the NFL. The Eagles two tackles ranked 1 and 5 overall.
Funny you should say that!

I've done several focused on D, and in this one, I specifically focused on run-stop grades for the mid-rounders (except for Swinson, as a pure edge rush project).

2024 FA additions

Offense:

Allegretti
Biadasz
Ekeler
Ertz
McNichols
Zaccheaus

Defense:

Armstrong
Chinn
Ferrell
Fowler
Luvu
Igbinoghene
Wagner

What a list of f***ing hits .. coaching staff AND front office working on same page???
Incredible that the FO and DQ were bringing in "transitional" vets to help establish professionalism, and what they got was a NFCC team that exceeded not just their own expectations, but 28 other teams, none of which had more turn-over in terms of FO, coaching staff and players.

Is that good? It seems pretty good.

A far cry from the days of Deion, Haynesworth, Archuletta, Collins, etc when we just threw top dollar at the flashiest player without considering fit and scheme.

As Coach Herb Brooks famously put it, “I’m not looking for the best players, Craig; I’m looking for the right ones.”

Noah Brown on offense, came in late after being a late cut by the Texans. Even if he only made that one catch, the Hail Mary will live in our minds forever, and really launched us, while wrecking the Bears at the same time. Like that!

Another thing to point out is that not only were they all contributors in some part, the ones they signed to the 3 year deals, vs the ones on 1 year deals, were the top contributors for the most part, with only a couple notable exceptions, the older guys, Wagner and Ertz.

Badass, Allegretti, Luvu, and Armstrong, were among the best FA's we signed, are locked in for two more years.

Our FO is the real deal! Hail AP!

Random FA thoughts:

- DJ Reed is a a good target. AP drafted him in SF. Not sure if paying him and Lattimore is too much for the position. But if we can, and then re-sign Chinn, we’d be pretty set on the back end.

- Godwin could be a good move (assuming his injury isn’t career altering). Especially if the Higgins sweepstakes gets out of hand. Godwin would be a very good WR2. I’d re-sign D. Brown at the right price to be WR3/4. And then hope LMC is ready to contribute to round out the group.

- Didn’t realize Ronnie Staley is a FA. It’s not often a LT of his caliber is available. He’s 30, but that’s not necessarily that old for the position. Has experience blocking for a running QB and is already somewhat local. Move Coleman inside or to RT. Would be expensive, but not sure we have many other options to upgrade.

Godwin is a fantastic WR. Same injury concerns as Higgins but can you imagine having both of them?

I can imagine having both of them for 9 games each, meaning we have only one of them for the whole season if we're lucky. I think we need to stay away from the "guaranteed to miss ~5 games" gang.

Ertz and Way. Nice interview, especially Way. "I didn't realize how stressful 3rd downs were" :D

I wanted to heart this, but Tress made me lol a couple of times so I had emojify accordingly.

If anyone wants a good laugh today, go to about 7:45 and his convo with MM about the fake punt.

I think the bigger concern with Stanley than his age is injury history. That said, if they feel good about his health, I agree with you, he would make us better from both a talent and flexibility standpoint.

I really want AP to draft LT Wyatt Millum from WVU. 3 year starter at left tackle. Zero sacks, like, ever. 1 hit, three years ago, and just a handful of hurries. He may be the best pass blocking LT in NCAA history. But he's also 6'6'' 315 lbs and run blocks with a mean streak like Cosmi does. He's projected right around 30 on average so he is in our range. Draft Millum, move BC to RT and we should be set.

I never understood this he is solid

RB is not a weakness. CB is

BRob has never passed 800 yards rushing in a season, he's average just over 13 games played per 17 game season, and his TD count of 8 this year was a career high. He's solid, decent, middle of the pack, but he can certainly be upgraded.

I never understood this he is solid

RB is not a weakness. CB is

Brob is not really a scat back and not really a power running back. His yards after contact per attempt is 68th in the league. He's 28th in broken tackles which is also a volume stat, which means he's near last in the league among starters if not last based on games played. He's near the bottom or bottom 3rd in nearly every meaningful stat related to run efficiency and threat.

He had 2 rushes over 40yds all year, one of which was a TD, and none over 50yds. He's good for about one rush over 10yds per game and not much else.

He runs like he expects to go down, not like a guy trying to burst through the line and gain as many yards as possible.

If the OL isn't creating a freeway for him to drive through he's not trucking anyone.

He's not terrible but he's not the kind of RB you want on a team that went to the NFC championship.

They could definitely upgrade RB.
