Just saw the highlights of the Wash/Phi game...everything that could have gone wrong for Washington early on, did...and yet they still fought back...gotta give Quinn credit he took one risk after another...but just like Detroit couldn't overcome 5 turnovers last week, Washington was just destroyed by their turnovers...and that last one in the 3rd quarter sealed it for them.

Meh I think the Eagles would have beat Detroit as well. Roster wise they are the best team in the NFC, easily.

But great year for Washington. Daniels and Quinn with a bright future ahead of them.

Then the author claims that a dummy call on the first play was part of "mental warfare" and trickery that, surprise to all, never happens in NFL games.

Yet you can see from the film nobody on the WFT defense was fooled by the call and they all followed Barkley to the right immediately. They just couldn't f***ing tackle, and a few tripped over each other. That's what made that play work, not a dummy call.

They’d carry that rhythm soon to a fourth-and-5 conversion when Brown gave Marshon Lattimore a release the cornerback had succeeded against earlier in the game. Brown switched his tendency, Lattimore “fell for it” and the receiver hauled in a 31-yard catch to set up Philadelphia’s third touchdown.


This happens every single NFL game. You set guys up for changes later in the game, or even later in the season. Every team does it. It's not some genius innovation.


They stayed calm as a feisty Commanders group flashed its assortment of trash-talk variations, Hurts both reminding teammates the stakes of this game and wryly changing the cadence up to bait Washington’s defense. The Commanders encroached three straight times, risking a touchdown by penalty (yes, it turns out this is real). On the fourth now-below-1-yard try, Hurts scored. Three fumble-gifted possessions became three touchdowns.


Trying to jump the snap count is also not new. Hurts didn't bait anyone, Luvu was always going to try and guess and that's never precise.

I'm seriously down on Lattimore, but we can't just dump his contract. My mind is open to the possibility that a full off-season will give his hamstring time to fully heal. If it does, then we can fairly assess what kind of player he is this stage of his career.

All that said, I hate his attitude. When he gets beat, instead of getting pissed in the positive sense and stepping up, he gets rattled and dumber as a football player. Something tells me there's no way, if he were a draft prospect, he'd get the vaunted "Commander tag."

I’m willing to give Lattimore the benefit of the doubt. He thrives on physicality and he wasn’t healthy when he was there. Coming to a team midseason is difficult which is why you don’t see a ton of in-season trades in the NFL. That said, he needs to be markedly improved next year for this not to be a waste of assets.

Overall, what a season. Most fun I’ve had since RGIII’s rookie year and probably the best season of my life that I can remember (I was five in 1991). For once we go into the offseason with more answers than questions, and now we get to see how they go about improving the team around JD.

I was baffled by the refs on the Luvu-trying-to-jump-the-play thing. It was something like, "Washington has been warned that if they continue to do this intentionally...blah blah blah," right?

Do WHAT intentionally? Trying to jump the snap to get early position on that stupid f***ing play is simply trying to stop the TD. So you want us to stop trying to stop them? The ref may has well have said, "If the Commanders don't let the Eagles score here, I'm just going to give them a touchdown anyway."

I'm sure there's an actual rule there that I probably wouldn't fully disagree with, but the way he worded the announcement over the PA was bonkers. We were rolling at my house, game was over by then anyhow, and we loved that Luvu was still out there going all-out...

"There's like a theoretical-level math problem that's going to come up on how to calculate 'half the distance to the goal' that NFL refs won't be able to calculate if they keep this up. Jump it, Frankie!"

I get how it works, but what's the thought process on, "Let's ram our marquee quarterback's head into our own offensive line, have it crushed by their defensive line, and then have our guys run into him from behind to make sure the rest of his body gets slammed, too. And let's do this several times per game for as long as possible, until his CTE brain starts leaking out his ears."

Is there something exceptional about Hurts that they don't use the backup for this, or snap to a RB or whatever? There's certainly no disguising what's about to happen... Seems nuts to me.

They explained during the telecast there's some kind of bad faith play rule or whatever that lets Refs award a score. It seems hinky.

I've always hated the half the distance to the goal penalty and always thought it should be ball on the 1yd line and you get an extra down. If it's 1st down over and over again you just keep getting more downs. THEN if the other team is clearly doing something stupid after X number of tries, it's an automatic score but you have to be sure it's intentional.

Not sure how that would work but seems like a loophole that has to be closed somehow. Maybe by ejecting players. Or fines.
