I've said this before, a little controversial, but at this point I'd you asked me to trade JD straight up for any other QB in the NFL right now, I'd probably pass.

Mahomes is clearly an all time great, but he's benefited from a Super Bowl cast around him including the defense that is winning many of their games this year. Allen and Burrow are great QBs, but I'm not convinced that JD won't end up better than both of them. LJ, has shown some real choke in the big moments, despite tearing through the regular season. JD may be the most clutch QB in the league, right now.

I'm betting on JDs potential to be as good or better than anyone, while still on his rookie contract. If we traded him straight up for Mahomes, LJ or Allen, we'd have a real struggle filling in all the holes around those guys due to their cap hits, so they would regress here. JD is shining, despite the dearth of talent around him. He's special.

Check out the JD interview with Simms if you haven't yet. A bunch of good stuff in there, but my favorite was him coming right out and saying he's comfortable at 205. The draft is over, no need to be all ninja about his weight anymore. Dude likes bein skinny. Deal with it. ;)

I've said this before, a little controversial, but at this point I'd you asked me to trade JD straight up for any other QB in the NFL right now, I'd probably pass.

Definitely. Not sure it's even all that controversial. We need his cheap years to build the team around him. I wouldn't move him for anyone at this point. There are certainly better QBs in the league right now, but we benefit immensely from the contract during the rebuild.

But that's just being practical. I also just like him. Like @ynotcaps keeps saying, he's our guy. Those other dudes suck butts.

Lucky Falcons were on their backup kicker or else this place and narrative is vastly different

Nah, Koo has been dodgy as hell this year, and 56 isn't a gimme for anyone.

Peters really needs to upgrade the d-line. Payne and Allen just don’t cut it, they get no penetration on runs or passes.

They're both really good players, but a shaky NFL D-line is kinda like trying to grasp a wet bar of soap. It'll always find the weak spot to squik out. Too much pressure here, squik. One guy playing weak there, squik. We should definitely shed one in the offseason for sure, but let's not overstate things.

Ertz had two vintage-Ertz hero catches in the second half

Remember that one he caught and there was a bunch of YAC? Like, he didn't just catch it and fall down. He actually ran. For like a while. Ever think you'd see that again?

(We bag on him too much. He's been pretty great for us this year, and a real safety valve for JD.)

He’s washed….done. He’s already pandering saying he’s willing to mentor a young QB and take a pay cut….dude is a fraud…

A career in Green Bay, short stay with the Jets. So I guess someone is going to back up a Brinks truck for Darnold and Aaron will continue the Favre trifecta in Minnesota.

Same thing, except in a different order. Brett did it like, Hall of Famer for Green Bay, total embarrassing joke for the Jets, solid closing seasons for the Vikings, then became a douche in retirement. Rodgers started off with GB the same, did the total joke thing with the Jets but had a bunch of injury time to squeeze the becoming a douche in his personal life thing early, which was efficient of him. Now he's just gotta go wear purple for a bit to "mentor" JJ.

This does not bode well for Jordan Love. Someone make sure he knows to enjoy his time in the Frozen Tundra while he can, cuz going to NY and topping Brett's unfaithful public dick picks and Aaron's arsenal of idiocy and egotism is going to take real work. If I were him I'd go straight to Minnesota after.

Now that the season is, pretty much, over, it’s time to air some feelings.

I was firmly behind Maye, wanted no part of JD or CW. Too much lingering PTSD from griffin, the team ( at the time ) a collection of misfits, bums, RR rejects and two great players, TM and Tress. I worried what kind of beating any QB would take. Like when the old ball coach let Ramsey get obliterated on a weekly basis.

JD is really something, what every one else said, I currently echo. It’s a strange and almost long forgotten feeling, what I currently feel on a weekly basis.

Peters showed he can be a shrewd talent accumulator last offseason, hopefully that trend continues next spring/summer. The future is….where are my shades??

They’re saying on all the sports shows, that there’s no way Minnesota can let Darnold go….

I can’t recall seeing a team hoist a QB on their shoulders in the room like we saw with Darnold yesterday. They love him.

It's just one year, but I think there are already some incredible story lines to watch over the years with this class.

I think JD has shown he could become a generational QB, with health and such breaking his way, and that he actually might have landed in the best situation of all the rookies. We were a complete unknown in terms of what the operation was going to look like, what the new ownership was going to bring in terms of professionalism and culture, and it looks like we've struck gold. If we can keep enough of the key figures -- mostly AP -- then there's no reason to expect that to change for the worse.

I think the opposite is true for Caleb. The Bears ended up being the most brutal landing spot as opposed to the best as so many thought. Easy to say in retrospect, but it was already well established that Eberflus was/is a dolt, that all the weapons they added were rendered useless by their terrible OL foundation, and that any character flaws (or, I think more accurately, maturity issues) have been magnified by the overall terribleness that is da Bearss.

At this point, I think I have to eat some crow on Nix. I still think he necessarily is on track to become a superstar, but it looks like he is just what Payton thought he was, and if they stay together, he could be really good.

Penix is 2 starts in, so too early to tell much, but a lot of bad overthrows. A couple of really nice throws, too. So, work in progress, we'll see. I think he has a decent situation with some good weapons and a stable owner, but we'll see if FO sanity/intellect becomes an issue, as suggested by the 15 game, $100M Kirk boondoggle.

The one who is most interesting might be McCarthy. What is the dude's path to the field? And where? As CCR just posted, no way MIN can walk away from Darnold at this point is there?

He's hoping for a good 10-15 year drama!

Ha. Still think we can do better that Whitt in the offseason. That said if Peters drafts well and does well in FA, he may have enough talent to get away with basic schemes.

Yes Davis needs to find a desk job.
It’s not about Whitt my dude. It’s about the talent level. Sure, it’s better than it was. But I mean — come on.

Our 4-13 team just won its 11th game **NEWSFLASH** for the first time in THIRTY f***ING THREE years. 33!!!

You act like he has the 1985 Bears D and has been screwing up.

Step back from the ledge man. See a glass more half full than empty. If you *somehow* thought this team would go from 4-13 Snyder shitshow to a Belichick coached type stalwart —

You were NEVER going to be happy.

Darnold is only 27 too. With the weak 2025 draft QB class, it feels like Minnesota could trade J.J. McCarthy for significant draft capital. It will be very interesting to see which direction they go.

Win Vs Dallas and we get someone other than Philly
Yeah, I forgot that with the Green Bay loss to the Vikes, we just need to win on Sunday to get 6th - don't need help from the Bears (which I don't think is coming). Changes the calculus some.

Still thought JD took a lot of punishment on that last drive, and that his body could use a break - but there is definitely something to play for in Dallas

That's the crazy thing: when they went for 1 to tie, I had complete confidence that we were going to go down the field and win it. I was actually surprised when we didn't win it there. I mean, the last 25 years had honed me into a lethal weapon of defeatism and in 15 weeks, JD had reversed that entirely.

And when we won the coin toss in OT, I felt like it was done.

Who am I?
I also felt confident when they went for 1….like as long as we have the ball last….

They made the post season, mission accomplished, so to speak. I don’t care one bit about seedings and potential matchups, I care about playing well.

I understand the “rest/protect” certain players, but they’re kinda on a roll, I’d like to see it continue. Obvious exceptions being Ekeler, badazz, and that CB with the wonky hammy.

The pass defense is a little better, 7 ypa versus 7.7. Run defense is worse, 4.8 ypc versus 4.4. Some of the total yards decrease is due to the offense holding the ball/time of possession better than last year. Yes the D lacks talent but the talent is better than last season at LB and in the secondary, a wash on the d-line. I just feel like a seasoned and proven d-coordinator like Spagnuolo or Fangio would get more out of them. Maybe Whitt becomes that one day.

If Lattimore comes back the next couple seasons as the shut down corner of an upgraded defense, the trade is still worth it IMO.
Shopping for coordinators can backfire. I do believe in continuity. Add in plus 7! wins for the season? Maybe 8?

I get your schtick here. Being “clinical” with your analysis. Which I’m sure my 6yr year old would maybe appreciate? But the rest of us?

We aren’t noobs man. We see the issues…and to have someone blast them all game, it’s insulting, and more or less annoying.

I will say that if it’s something that helps you get thru the emotional game environment, then i can understand that. And I won’t hassle you.

Ok, I’ve said enough

Here's pics of what's left of my 1984 ball if anyone wants to take a scroll thru memory lane, there's 45+ autographs on it; interestingly there's a handful who wouldn't make the roster (Babe Laufenberg anyone? lol) so it was probably signed by/around Aug. 15 before more cuts would happen by Gm.1; I think they're all ID'd except for 2 or 3

Thanks for sharing, man, that's awesome!

I mean, some of those names go waaay back, like end-of-career Jim Hart, who made his bones with the Cardinals (St. Louis, not Arizona; football, not baseball -- for you whippersnappers 😉), Ken Coffey, Dave Butz, Mark Murphy!

Great trip down memory lane!
