That was just. The Tee Higgins commentary. Lots of other posters wanted “other” receivers. Names “may vary”
.
That was the one people got serious about. Adams reportedly only wanted to be dealt to one of two teams, and he was, so that wasn't an option. Hopkins got the ultimate contender deal, also not an option it seems. Was Mingo on your radar?
Higgins was the intriguing one; the one people here were making actual trade scenarios about.
Plenty of posters stated “we have other needs, not WR, they are fine, blah blah blah blah”. Which was an adequate take.
Just an incorrect one.
Not incorrect. I think "fine" is an apt description, don't you? You were into the idea of taking a real shot this year, which was ultra-unrealistic. And in that headspace, sure, deal for a WR and a CB. Give up those picks, take that shot. Why not?
But there were those of us not willing to gamble heavy on a lark, where having a fine receiving corps for what was gearing up to be a fine season was... fine. In that headspace, keep your assets, continue to transform the team in the offseason when it's cost effective and options are plentiful.
We can make the postseason this year, maybe even make a little noise when we get there, but this team wasn't going to win a championship with a couple of patchwork moves to a roster with way more holes than that. What our front office did last offseason was extremely good work. Stay the course.
Oh and PS — I wasn’t one that ever pined for the injured CB. Like at all.
I was talking about Higgins, not Lattimore. Of all the receiving options that came up here, Higgins was the injury question mark and has been all year. Great when he plays, which is about half the time.
To your point though, Lattimore wasn't on my radar either, but that move was in line with what I was saying during the "We need a receiver!" talk. If we're going to give up assets for something, let's let it be for a guy at a (desperate) need position that won't be available in free agency a couple months from now. Using assets to pry something loose from another team that's a huge need for us makes sense to me. Losing assets to take on other team's problems and question marks doesn't.
That said — I’m still bullish on that deal. I think he’s going to make a marked difference for us — and WILL PLAY — sometime shortly.
I like the deal a lot, too -- IF he contributes this year. Glad to have him either way, but he has tremendous value right now because he helps us drastically increase three positions in our secondary. Won't be the end of the world if his season's a bust as long as he gets healthy and puts an end to the injury streak. It's a very good deal if they can keep him on the field for that contract.
This team should make the playoffs. They just should. If they don’t? Will be a major meltdown.
Agree 100%.
