Terry, as a #1, is in the 2nd tier. He's not up there with Chase, Lamb, Jefferson, AJ Brown, on a pure dominance level. Guys in the past like Calvin Johnson or Cooper Kupp when he was healthy. So yeah, maybe we need a 1B, someone to take the pressure off TM. Because when teams focus on shutting down TM, they can do it, too frequently and we have little way of making them pay for it.

Hell, we could really use a dynamic TE like Kelce or Brock Bowers. Sinnott surely ain't it, yet. Unsure if he ever will be more than a swiss army knife type TE.
So you are saying if they had as few more all pro / future hall of famer types on offense they would likely be better? Interesting… ;)

I’d go after Tee Higgins. But I’ve been vocal about that.

Those that think “we have enough at WR” were drinking the Kool-Aid, IMO. Especially w injuries being so prevalent on the NFL landscape.

That said, of the WR’s that were dealt? Seemingly very few (any?) have had an impact — yet.

This team still needs like 4-5 new starting players (OL, WR, TE, DE, CB). Not impossible, and far better than the 15 or so it needed last off season.

But the work is not even close to being done. And we are seeing that.
Higgins is very likely going to be a FA after the season so if Peters wants him, with the idea that guys want to come play with Daniels, they should have a darn good shot at getting him.

The question is with his durability concerns over the last couple seasons is he going to be worth what he’s going to demand? Regardless, I don’t have a doubt they will add a significant upgrade to the receiving corps in the offseason.

There is going to be a bidding war for Higgins. I could see teams like the Pats, and Chargers also involved. So, will be interesting to see if those reports about guys wanting to play with JD are true. The price tag might get too high though - and as you said, durability is a big question mark with him.

Well yeah :D. We're a borderline playoff team right now, with massive turnover from the team that lost 12 of its last 13 games last year. If we want to be a SB contender, the needs are there. This roster isn't going 14-3 and making deep playoff runs. The Chiefs, Bills, Lions and Eagles have the talent in the key places that we lack.

Its still basically year 1 of Peters, so you know, lets continue to give him time. Plus, our rookie QB is the real deal, expecting him to never struggle at all, because of his hot start, was never reality. I'm picturing him as a 3rd year guy, with better talent around him, just destroying the league.

The Giants aren't getting a compensatory pick for Saquon because they signed Drew Lock, who they aren't starting after cutting their QB with 7 games left, anyone that hasn't watched the offseason Hard Knocks it's gonna be even better with the context

Can't remember if I posted to this effect earlier or not (pain-med brain is a real thing), but the thing that the teams like the Bills, Ravens, Chiefs, Eagles, and to a growing extent, the Lions have that we don't yet is the benefit of having had a stable football foundation in place for a number of years: a well-integrated philosophy that manifests from player acquisition and development to on-field systems and schemes.

That consistency allows them to draft, develop, and acquire players that demonstrate the traits they value and mold them into the systems they run. And what that supports more than anything is not the development of superstars necessarily, but the depth that allows those teams to stay at or near the top of the standings year after year, even when they suffer the inevitable in-season injuries and the off-season loss of players to FA, retirement, etc.

What that portends for us? If we can keep our FO and the core of our coaching staff, we have the opportunity to be like the Lions -- a team that is well on its way to becoming a long-term marquee football operation, with a very clear philosophy of how they want to play and a FO that finds the right kind of players and pumps them into the system.

It will take a couple of years just because of the nature of the fact that it takes time to find and develop 53 guys who fit the philosophy. That would be true even if RR and the Martys hadn't been dog-shit talent evaluators -- even if their guys could play, there's no guarantee they would have been the right guys to fit the now, stable (please, God) football operation.

Luckily, we have the hardest piece of all to find -- a potentially-unicorn QB, who not only has all the physical skill you could ask for, but the work ethic and the demeanor that no matter how it seems, the game isn't over as long as he has a chance to win it. Now it's about adding those guys with "Commanders tags" or whatever the FO calls it through the next couple of drafts that when a Wylie or a Biadasz or a Terry goes down, there's a guy ready top step up who may not have the same level of talent or physical traits but knows the system and the playbook inside and out and has taken hundreds and hundreds of reps in camps and practices.

Those that think “we have enough at WR” were drinking the Kool-Aid, IMO.

I don't think anyone here said that. The argument was against trading two 3rds for Higgins, not that we had enough at WR. I think we all agree we need another impact WR, but giving up two 3rds for a guy that can't stay on the field that will likely be available in a few months for free, wasn't the droid we were looking for. Your mileage may vary.

Especially w injuries being so prevalent on the NFL landscape.

So trade for an injured guy! That'll solve it. ;)

The price tag might get too high though - and as you said, durability is a big question mark with him.

That's the advantage of doing this type of shopping in the offseason though. There'll be lots of options. If Higgins isn't the right fit for whatever reason, we can add one or two other guys who can bring what we need and then some.

That was just. The Tee Higgins commentary. Lots of other posters wanted “other” receivers. Names “may vary” 😝.

Plenty of posters stated “we have other needs, not WR, they are fine, blah blah blah blah”. Which was an adequate take.

Just an incorrect one.

Oh and PS — I wasn’t one that ever pined for the injured CB. Like at all.

That said — I’m still bullish on that deal. I think he’s going to make a marked difference for us — and WILL PLAY — sometime shortly.

This team should make the playoffs. They just should. If they don’t? Will be a major meltdown.

We will see, sir JAGs

That was the one people got serious about. Adams reportedly only wanted to be dealt to one of two teams, and he was, so that wasn't an option. Hopkins got the ultimate contender deal, also not an option it seems. Was Mingo on your radar? ;)

Higgins was the intriguing one; the one people here were making actual trade scenarios about.

Plenty of posters stated “we have other needs, not WR, they are fine, blah blah blah blah”. Which was an adequate take.

Not incorrect. I think "fine" is an apt description, don't you? You were into the idea of taking a real shot this year, which was ultra-unrealistic. And in that headspace, sure, deal for a WR and a CB. Give up those picks, take that shot. Why not?

But there were those of us not willing to gamble heavy on a lark, where having a fine receiving corps for what was gearing up to be a fine season was... fine. In that headspace, keep your assets, continue to transform the team in the offseason when it's cost effective and options are plentiful.

We can make the postseason this year, maybe even make a little noise when we get there, but this team wasn't going to win a championship with a couple of patchwork moves to a roster with way more holes than that. What our front office did last offseason was extremely good work. Stay the course.

Oh and PS — I wasn’t one that ever pined for the injured CB. Like at all.

I was talking about Higgins, not Lattimore. Of all the receiving options that came up here, Higgins was the injury question mark and has been all year. Great when he plays, which is about half the time.

To your point though, Lattimore wasn't on my radar either, but that move was in line with what I was saying during the "We need a receiver!" talk. If we're going to give up assets for something, let's let it be for a guy at a (desperate) need position that won't be available in free agency a couple months from now. Using assets to pry something loose from another team that's a huge need for us makes sense to me. Losing assets to take on other team's problems and question marks doesn't.

That said — I’m still bullish on that deal. I think he’s going to make a marked difference for us — and WILL PLAY — sometime shortly.

I like the deal a lot, too -- IF he contributes this year. Glad to have him either way, but he has tremendous value right now because he helps us drastically increase three positions in our secondary. Won't be the end of the world if his season's a bust as long as he gets healthy and puts an end to the injury streak. It's a very good deal if they can keep him on the field for that contract.

This team should make the playoffs. They just should. If they don’t? Will be a major meltdown.

Agree 100%.
