Baltimore-ish
Tee Higgins has no interest in resetting the market for receivers, but the Cincinnati Bengals veteran is hoping to be paid his worth. Higgins, who reportedly reaffirmed his desire to be traded last week, was initially looking for a deal that was similar to the three-year, $70 million extension Michael Pittman recently signed with the Indianapolis Colts, according to Cincinnati.com. The Bengals haven't come close to the $20 million-per-year range for Higgins, per the report.

Over 20 per? No thank you.

Hes not even top 10 for WR, hes like top 25 imo.

Let's look at where we are now vs pre-season when the Aiyuk talk was dominating.

I was in the "get a top WR1/2" camp back then because JD was an unknown at the NFL level and there was clearly a deficiency in the WFT roster vs the rest of the division (other than maybe NYG). The common sense idea at the time was a top WR is a safety blanket and helps the other guys get open.

But a lot has changed since then. We now know JD is a legit, elite QB with precise passing and the ability to throw receivers open.

When you have a QB like that (think about what Brady did) you can get away with a WR corp that isn't so top-heavy. As long as you have guys with NFL speed and good hands who can run their routes correctly you can throw the ball enough to open up the run game, and then you're a match for anyone (provided your defense is top half of the league, at least).

So they may not even need another WR.

Sure, Jan. Owners talk to their QB late at night one day before the coach is fired all the time. Totally normal.
So f***ing glad this isn’t us anymore. It’s crazy watching other franchises be in the news for dysfunction, chaos, and poor ownership and the only time we’re mentioned is when talking heads are saying how good we are and how well run of an organization we have. This is some Twilight Zone / alternate universe stuff and I’m here for it.

Not to mention the 2, 3, and 4 WRs are doing their jobs decently enough. They’ve been sure handed and executing well.

Heard some random chatter about trading for Jaycee Horn at the deadline. Still on his rookie deal. 1 corner upside. Physical Quinn prototype. This is the kind of move worth making.

On the other hand it seems counterintuitive to sort of adopt the stance of “hey, what do you know, our guy's legit good, nah forget giving him better weapons and maybe reaching even higher”….like Brady didn’t have Moss, Welker, Gronk, Edelman, Evans, Amendola

Almost all of whom made their names in New England.

And? You’re suggesting Brady did it all, when he had some extremely talented HOF talents.

I’d like to support JD with more weapons sooner rather than later. Who that is, is up to AP.
No, I said they were products of that NE pipeline/system/etc/whatever. They went outside of it for guys like Moss (who was a project at that stage, iirc) from time to time but Brady/BB were famous for taking the exact kind of players I described and making it work. Really well.

I'm not saying JD is Brady so don't even take that next leap. I'm saying he's doing the same things Brady did, and that made it unnecessary to buy superstars at every position.

Kind of ridiculous imo.

Some of these owners don’t comprehend that treating people like that harms your ability to attract talent.
Yeah but it doesn’t. It’s NYC.

Moss was never a project. Just FYI. Like, ever

Also — guys like Mahomes, Brady, Allen, Manning, etc (past and current) made WR’s better -/ but they also have some great WR’s.

There’s no chicken/egg thing here.

That said, JD5 has McLaurin and…… youth. Is McLaurin the same as Brady/Manning/Mahomes/Allen etc’s top guys? Prob not, when you include TE’s (Altho the RB’s help a LOT).

Brady had HOFers all around him. Let’s do the same with JD to try and maximize his time here.

Sure nobody wants to coach or play in such a massive market for millions…

You’re right of course. Money talks. But being a disrespectful jerk is unnecessary. It just doesn’t help.

I just don’t see why any franchise would do anything other than whatever is the maximum benefit to the franchise. Because that translates to money.

Yeah but it doesn’t. It’s NYC.

Yeah, Dan Snyder had similar thoughts.

Yeah I mean who knows what a Billionaire is thinking. He may also be seeing things he doesn’t like, things that we have no view of.

What if he already knows Rodgers might be done after this year. Do you sit on your hands or try to alter the course of the ship?
