What a weird move. Have they lost faith in Pickett? Do they think RW is going to be a stable, mentoring backup or something?

I wonder if Tomlin is on the hot seat and bringing in a veteran QB removes the "developmental QB" variable from that equation.
I actually think it’s a smart move. For both parties. The jury may still be somewhat out on Pickett being a GOOD NFL starter, but I don’t think it’s out for much longer.

Steelers need a QB. They pick #20. Will be hard pressed to get any of the top 4 at that slot. And even Nix/Penix Jr *could* be gone by then. Don’t really know.

So they could trade for one (Fields? Howell?), so sign a UFA. Cousins won’t fit their salary structure, Mayfield is resigning in TB, so that leaves? Not much.

All that said, I also think that Russ needs to find and offense that fits him. His best days in Seattle were w a “run heavy” offense. It just was.

Welp, who also employs an offense like that? Pittsburgh has for decades. Tomlin is a great coach and leader of men, he can handle Russ and any of his “antics”.

It’s a low risk, high reward scenario for both sides, IMO. I like it.

I imagine we sign another defensive cowboy just to help the coaches implement .. cb Jourdain Lewis, their long snapper is a FA .. ideally it would be a depth cheap vet safety but Lewis is only secondary guy that fits the description

The weirdness to me is more about KP than Wilson. He's had a year and a half and has looked decent at times, all while saddled by a bad OC. I didn't think they soured on him enough to go from "we'll just roll with shitty Trubisky and Mason Rudolph" as backups to "let's go out and get Russell Wilson instead".

If PIT gets RW on a decent deal, then great for them and maybe him. But I'm skeptical from what I've seen of RW the last few years, pretty much since he f***ed up his finger.

I like the guy overall but he's been bad, and there was something off with him and Payton in DEN (after also being run out of SEA) that could suggest he's not taking coaching very well.

Tomlin has had guys like Antonio Brown to deal with so he can put up with "personalities" in the room to some extent, but a 35yr old SB winning QB that's just gone through two potential HOF coaches ...seems like RW may be on a level playing field with Tomlin.

I do think Tomlin is looking at his future in Pittsburgh. But I also think Russ at 5m a year (or whatever is was) is a smart gamble.

The Steelers got such horrid QB play, and still ended up with an over .500 record. Impressive!

Armstrong on 3 years max 45M .... okay. Dont know what the escalators are but 15M for a guy who doesnt start ...

Quinn put him out for 22 snaps in the GB playoff game .. 39% of defensive snaps

Hopefully hes ready to take the next step bc hes getting paid like one and this isnt a Hatcher/Mccain situation.

Agreed. Only 26 though. Eagles signed Huff from the Jets for 17m/yr. Same player. Part time specialist.
