His path to the sideline was wide open from the beginning of the play. The one cut he made in the open field was away from a wide open sideline. Absolutely nothing between him and that lane. Went left when he should have gone right. Not sure what you're seeing in that regard.
Once he turns into contact and not away from it, yes, absolutely he needs to learn how to get to the ground. But my point is we already knew that we're living in a world where he doesn't know how to handle contact. And since I'm a realist, yeah, I think we should stress that we want him to run AWAY from contact, not directly into it. Sideline. Every time. Easy to remember, no sliding required.
Like you said, if he's going to run like a running back, then he needs to learn how to be tackled like one. So for me the pragmatic route is, "Don't run like a running back. Run like a quarterback. Get the f*** out of bounds. We don't need the miracle run from you. We pay guys for that. We need you to be alive for the next play, the one after that, and so on until you're ready to retire at 45 with two fistfuls of Super Bowl Rings. Please and thank you."
