Good god.

Jays were winning 6-1 in the 3rd inning.

Manoah blows up, relievers all let in 1 run each and the Jays lost 10-8 to Nats. The Nats even had 5 (yes 5) unearned runs since they had 3 errors. And Jays still blew it.

I was listening to the game on car radio as I was doing errands when Vladdy hit a grand slam. and the Jays commentators are like.... Manoah is pitching fine. If there's one player who'll be happy at that blast it's Manoah.

I get home and it's a close game suddenly and then Jay BP blows it.

Post game Schneider: "We had a good day.... bats swung well.... but Nats came back with some homers"

lol

Because the other options are even worse. While I didn't watch the game, Manoah's numbers looked better than last year. He's actually striking out guys and the velo is where it should be. Control is still an issue.

The one area where the current management group does not get enough criticism is the development/drafting of pitchers. It's been horrendous. The team would have a lot fewer problems if even it was average.

He has tons of options, does he not? Just leave him in Buffalo for 2-3 months and give him some stability.

This is like the 3rd time they’ve rushed him back despite throwing poorly in the minors only to get killed again.

They can keep him in Buffalo. My point is, if Manoah doesn't start who does? The depth at pitching is nonexistent right now. He's really the only option.

Manoah looked fine through 50 pitches or so......is it possible he's just not a starter? Why not run him in the bullpen?

I figured Schneider just left him in there for too long.

First start in, what, nine months? Why wasn't he on a pitch count? For a manager who's all about the process, Schneider seemingly dropped the ball there. As is often the case with him.

Nice to see Vladdy's bat get going, in any case.

He made 4 rehab appearances and went 6 innings in his last AAA start. I’m sure the pitch count wasn’t an issue.

He could've been rolling complete games in the minors for all I care, dude should've been on a shorter leash yesterday considering what he's gone through.

And sure enough, Jays ended up getting burned anyway.

Sure but pitch count vs shorter leash are not really the same thing. Restricted pitch counts are for health concerns, a shorter leash indicates unwillingness to allow them to face hitters multiple times.

Despite Manoah’s struggles in his last inning of work, the bullpen still inherited a lead the following inning and blew it again.

True, getting him a win in his return would've been nice and when the Jays were up big early it looked very promising.

Bullpen let this one get away again.

The better we hit, the less stress on our pitchers to try and be perfect. Not getting any offense this off-season hurt our pitching as well.

'cuz he wants the big bucks.
He would get paid a lot more as a dominate reliever than a garbage starter.

He has been a starter his whole career. I don't rhink he throws hard enough to be a late inning guy. His slider would have to be his go to, and it is too inconsistent.

At this point I just hope he can keep it together for the year.

Hey, the 2016 team also started like 19-23 and was below .500 into May. They were still fine by the end, and made the playoffs in the #1 WC spot. Won 89 games. Not writing them off just yet.

I agree, I thought it was the 2015 season where they were hovering around .500 all season until August and then after the trade deadline they got David Price and Tulowitzky and went deep into the playoffs, It's not over in May, It's not over until the fat lady sings.

Yeah, I'm not seeing any similarities between that 2016 team and this one. I don't expect them to be a complete dumpster fire all season long, but I also don't expect them to challenge for a WC spot either. This team has players who never were as good as we all thought. This Jays team definitely has players on it currently who peaked early.

That 2015 team was also due for correction. They had a ridiculous run differential and were rather unlucky to have the record they did.

This team is the opposite. Winning close and getting bombed in losses.

Can’t wait to hear how close Bichette is in Schneider’s post game interview.

Great start. Game is over before it starts. I knew our pitching wouldn’t sustain itself from last year BUT the offence has been brutal .

Looks like Berrios has his first clunker. Harper just crushed a granny.
