Because the other options are even worse. While I didn't watch the game, Manoah's numbers looked better than last year. He's actually striking out guys and the velo is where it should be. Control is still an issue.
The one area where the current management group does not get enough criticism is the development/drafting of pitchers. It's been horrendous. The team would have a lot fewer problems if even it was average.
They can keep him in Buffalo. My point is, if Manoah doesn't start who does? The depth at pitching is nonexistent right now. He's really the only option. He has tons of options, does he not? Just leave him in Buffalo for 2-3 months and give him some stability.
This is like the 3rd time they’ve rushed him back despite throwing poorly in the minors only to get killed again.
This week could bury them.Next series is against the Phillies who are tied for the best record in the MLB. After that, it's against the Twins who are 9-1 in their last 10.
I figured Schneider just left him in there for too long.
First start in, what, nine months? Why wasn't he on a pitch count? For a manager who's all about the process, Schneider seemingly dropped the ball there. As is often the case with him.
Nice to see Vladdy's bat get going, in any case.
He made 4 rehab appearances and went 6 innings in his last AAA start. I’m sure the pitch count wasn’t an issue.
He could've been rolling complete games in the minors for all I care, dude should've been on a shorter leash yesterday considering what he's gone through.
And sure enough, Jays ended up getting burned anyway.
Sure but pitch count vs shorter leash are not really the same thing. Restricted pitch counts are for health concerns, a shorter leash indicates unwillingness to allow them to face hitters multiple times.
Despite Manoah’s struggles in his last inning of work, the bullpen still inherited a lead the following inning and blew it again.
'cuz he wants the big bucks.Manoah looked fine through 50 pitches or so......is it possible he's just not a starter? Why not run him in the bullpen?
He would get paid a lot more as a dominate reliever than a garbage starter.'cuz he wants the big bucks.
I agree, I thought it was the 2015 season where they were hovering around .500 all season until August and then after the trade deadline they got David Price and Tulowitzky and went deep into the playoffs, It's not over in May, It's not over until the fat lady sings.Hey, the 2016 team also started like 19-23 and was below .500 into May. They were still fine by the end, and made the playoffs in the #1 WC spot. Won 89 games. Not writing them off just yet.
