interesting that it is the one player nobody talked about that gets claimed.usually takes us 15-45 min to learn about waivers results
or Steinberg is on the ball
GMs are still enamored with size. They seem more likely to give big guys chances. Several of us from the start of camp suggested Schwindt might be a candidate to get claimed.interesting that it is the one player nobody talked about that gets claimed.
I still think Pelts will be a middle 6er. He just needs to stop playing scared. He was far more engaged physically before his pair of shoulder injuriesGlad that Pelletier cleared. Tbh I wouldn't have minded Schwindt over Rooney, but I never saw the upside.
For all the talk about him "not earning it" and it being his last legs, quite a few ppl said the same things about Honzek and Zary not too long ago (including some here who defended the latter two).
Ya, Pelletier probably never pans out at this point. However, his AHL production in his D+3 and 4 seasons was notable enough that you could still see a path there. I'll reiterate what I said yesterday, it's disappointing that11/12 fwd roster spots were filled months ago.
Nobody is irate by this? I think everyone was pleasantly surprised that Honzek showed a ton of potential after a disappointing D+1 production wise? We all want the success of the players?Imagine being told in September that not only would Honzek make the team out of camp, but nobody would be talking about it and half our fan base would be irate.
Coronato stayed because Rango is hurt. Honzek won’t be an every game forward most likely unless he continues surprising everyone, and also is likely AHL bound before the 10 game mark. Coronato gets some sweet top 6 time to prove he deserves a permanent spot. This is pretty much the ideal situation for every single one of our young guys how this played out.So we are electing to expose Pelletier so that waiver ineligible Coronato can start the year as our 13th forward instead?
Seems like a great decision.
So many thought it was a mistake to draft him at 16th. Personally I just don't know enough about Jr players to say one way or another so I just trust Conroy and the scouts that they kniw what they are doing. So far I think they are doing great.Imagine being told in September that not only would Honzek make the team out of camp, but nobody would be talking about it and half our fan base would be irate.
I think it's just badly worded and he's referring more to Pelts being waived for Rooney and Hanley to make the teamNobody is irate by this? I think everyone was pleasantly surprised that Honzek showed a ton of potential after a disappointing D+1 production wise? We all want the success of the players?
Odd takes around here sometimes.
Guess I could’ve been more clear and said the same news that told us he made it would have half the fan base losing their minds, but I think the point came across relatively straight forward.Nobody is irate by this? I think everyone was pleasantly surprised that Honzek showed a ton of potential after a disappointing D+1 production wise? We all want the success of the players?
Odd takes around here sometimes.
Nope this is the organization that doesn't want young players to succeed, let alone have a chance to.Now that Pelletier has cleared, can we all stop being dramatic and appreciate that all of Zary, Pospisil, Coronato, Wolf, and Honzek appear to be either getting big roles to start this year or exceeding expectations in Honzek’s case?

That's the assumption I would've made from most posters, but that particular one isn't above getting a reaction (sorry @Yepthatsme nothing personal, just the observation I've gathered over the years).I think it's just badly worded and he's referring more to Pelts being waived for Rooney and Hanley to make the team
Again, I just don't agree. I think it definitely would stun ppl but assuming all else was fair, I think the fans would be happy. I was certainly impressed with how Honzek trended in the pre-season (from a bad start at penticton to looking alright at the end, and then deciding he would go coast to coast on the PK haha).Guess I could’ve been more clear and said the same news that told us he made it would have half the fan base losing their minds, but I think the point came across relatively straight forward.
…have you been reading this board the last 24 hours? I assumed most people would be happy too, but it was honestly somehow more of a footnote that our 19 year old prospect made the team. It’s wild. That's the assumption I would've made from most posters, but that particular one isn't above getting a reaction (sorry @Yepthatsme nothing personal, just the observation I've gathered over the years).

Don't be disingenuous. No one's unhappy that Honzek made the team, folks are pissed the Flames are employing their usual bog standard asset management quote unquote strategy. For a rebuilding club, all of Pelletier, Coronato, & Honzek should be on the team at the same time. Mind boggling I know…have you been reading this board the last 24 hours? Like if I need to clarify further, imagine telling yourself this summer that Honzek would make the team and 95% of the discourse on this board following the news would be pissed off fans venting.
Just going through this thread, it certainly isn't 95% pissed off venting lol. I think you are seeing what you want to see. Yes there is some of that, but there is also just as much earnest discussion about why Pelletier and co didn't earn a spot on the roster.…have you been reading this board the last 24 hours? Imagine being told in September that not only would Honzek make the team out of camp, but nobody would be talking about it and half our fan base would be irate.
…and just like that we’ve circled back to my original post, that somehow we aren’t talking nearly enough about Honzek and half the people commenting since then have been pissed by the same news that told us.Just going through this thread, it certainly isn't 95% pissed off venting lol. I think you are seeing what you want to see. Yes there is some of that, but there is also just as much earnest discussion about why Pelletier and co didn't earn a spot on the roster.
Now if you want to say we aren't discussing Honzek enough, that I can get on board with. Nobody would've called that before the pre-season started, and I think it’s going to be exciting to see just what he can show. And if he isn't for the NHL, he showed enough in my eyes that he should be in the AHL.
Look at the post on the main boards about rookies making NHL opening lineups. We literally lead the league this year, what rebuilding club are you talking about?Don't be disingenuous. No one's unhappy that Honzek made the team, folks are pissed the Flames are employing their usual bog standard asset management quote unquote strategy. For a rebuilding club, all of Pelletier, Coronato, & Honzek should be on the team at the same time. Bind boggling I know
Regardless, Schwindt is gone so today is a good day
Well, I never disagreed with the first part. Anyways, I don't think we need to continue this one further. We both know we've had enough circular arguments to know when everything is settled…and just like that we’ve circled back to my original post, that somehow we aren’t talking nearly enough about Honzek and half the people commenting since then have been pissed by the same news that told us.

I mean while it looks extremely likely Honzo has made it, I won't celebrate until it's official. Being waived and clearing waivers aren't the same as being cut, so we still have 2 cuts to make…have you been reading this board the last 24 hours?
