Does the 30 day thing go past pre-season into regular season? Did we do this with Ryan at one point? Or was that special for pandemic?

I wonder if this works for Solo. Sneak him out early rather than late to lower risk of losing him (ie: Byron) and then let them get a few reg season games while the 30 days in effect. He gets the NHL games and pay bump, but the waiver risk is reduced significantly.
It is possible, I just hate the idea of pissing away a young defenseman for 2 older that have accomplished very little and IMO shouldn't even be in the NHL

And yes, once waivers open, it's 30 days/10 NHL games

What do they see in Barrie? Guy has been a gong show in his own zone so far. Flames gonna Flame

Whatever just don’t send Wolf down or I’ll be 100% convinced they have no idea wtf they are doing.

My head starts spinning every time I try to remember how many tweener Dmen we have. I forgot Bahl existed, he’ll have a spot. Plus Barrie’s still here, which means something…

Weegar-Andersson
Bahl-Miromanov

Hanley/Pachal/Bean/Solovyov/Grushnikov/Kuznetsov/Tinordi/Barrie

Then there’s Bruz and Poirier who should be getting cups of coffee if all goes well. Poirier, especially, should not get lost in the mix

. Conroy obtained fan buy in for retool/rebuild but in their zeal to “shelter” youth from getting used to losing by surrounding them with good vets they forgot to leave room for youth and that fans actually want to see the youth play.

Solovyov isn't selling any tickets. Forwards have a good mix, and injuries will happen.

That and worth noting that the Wranglers will be pretty deep this year with young NHL potential prospects. A lot less AHL regulars just filling roster spots. I imagine they will sell tickets pretty nicely, especially if both Honzek and Coronato start the season there.

Flames have entered the 21st century finally and made a pre-season documentary.

First episode is here:

Fairly fun watch, only a handful of players are followed and one was Solo where they talked about his gender reveal being with the team. Guy goes on waivers before the episode even dropped LOL. Episode is up until the first 3 pre-season games, but only get a minute or two at the end.

Next episode looks like they focus on Basha who Conroy and Huska both gush over.

Edit: next episode is on Friday and the finale is next Tuesday.

I haven't watched every minute of the games. I'll probably catch most of this season at least but won't feel too bad if I miss some less desirable matchups, especially the Eastern ones.

Based on what I've seen this month and in a hypothetical if I could play coach for a minute I would roll these 4 lines fairly evenly. With more ice time given to whichever was moving well that night. Get the spares in a couple times a month.

Sharangovich-Kadri-Kuzmenko
Huberdeau-Zary-Mantha
Lomberg(Honzek)-Backlund-Coleman
Honzek(Lomberg)-Pospisil-Coronato
Pelletier, Klapka

Not sure what I would do with the blueline. More of a 2A, 2B, and a sheltered 3rd pairing situation the Flames have going on. Maybe go with Weegar-Andersson in certain late game situations or matchups.

Weegar-Miromanov
Bean-Andersson
Bahl-Brzutewicz
Pachal

Basically wait and see with the goalies. If Dustin Wolf doesn't start the season opener this franchise just isn't getting it, and maybe never will. Foresee a pretty even split between these two unless one really takes the bull by the horns or the other is complete trash and they bring up Cooley.

Wolf
Vladar

Have no idea what the special team units look like but Ras should be on PP1 if we're looking to trade him. Maximize value.

One final preseason game on Friday, then close to a week off before the season opener. You have to imagine more cuts and guys being placed on waivers to occur the next 3 days

Honzek as the extra forward? Keeping Rooney while waiving Pelletier? Keeping 8 defencemen just because?

Why oh why must Flames management always do the dumbest of things

My guess is that Honzek is not going to make the team but he may get a game or two or an NHL paycheck as a reward for a great camp.

That's the right call. Last year Honzek was barely a difference maker in the WHL, he's clearly worked hard to improve but I don't think he's still going to look NHL ready when the shooting percentages stabilize and he's playing against full NHL teams night in and night out. A year or two in the AHL will help him continue to improve and build confidence before we bring him up.

I'd hope they didn't waive Pelletier because he has more upside than most of the guys competing for spots 10-13 but he's had a really underwhelming camp. I've never really bought the offensive upside with him, but he could make a solid two way bottom 6 guy. His injury last year set him back so much.

If we assume that Barrie is getting signed, and the 3 guys waived today are reassigned to the Wranglers when/if they clear, then we'll be down to 27 men, still 4 to cut. Those 4 will likely be Cooley and 3 forwards

I think we are waiting to waive Cooley until the last possible moment with the Bruins grabbing Patera from the Canucks and IMO Cooley is a better goalie.
