Rumor: 2024 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Thread: Post Deadline

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

The problem with trading Lehky, is that we would be well and truly F'd should Val go off the rails (um, pardon the expression.) Also Landy's health still isn't fully resolved. If Landy comes back this spring and plays up to a second line level and Val continues to keep things in control... yeah, maybe I could see Lehky being the offset. Also, Lehky isn't exactly the most stout of players. He only managed 16 regular season games for us in 21/22. :sarcasm: But in 22/23 he missed 18 games, in 23/24 he missed 37 games and he's missed 12 so far this season. That would be the only drawback Lehky has in my opinion.

Lehky provides Selke defense but granted does not score goals the way Nuke does. But with Lehky, it's not the number of goals he scores... it's when he scores them. The guy is CLUTCH. He had 4 GWGs in our Cup year, one of which was in OT.

Wait... people actually want Perbix? I just thought this was board chatter about a fun name to say and type.
I agree re: Lehkonen. Trading him would be a last resort.

Check out this beauty...

(5v5 goals per 60 this season)

And now the same stat but league-wide...

It's crazy, we live in a day and age where I fear many are taking MacKinnon and Makar for granted. Much like I unfrotunately did with Roy, Sakic, Forsberg, etc. I knew the Avs were great and contendors but I don't think I realized how freaking rare it was to have the amount of elite/generational talent the Avs had in the early years.

I am not making that mistake this time. But it's curious.... Nuke and Lehky are clearly the supporting cast but they are each accomplishing some astounding feats. Hope I'm not taking them for ganted.

I say we just sign whoever we need to sign and offset what the NHL salary cap will allow Stan hiring the player (or their spouce) to star in a commercial for the Nuggets and Rapids? Or just to act as a brand ambasador?

I honestly think there are two scenarios that you trade Lehkonen, 1) the team decides to rebuild and trades everyone, 2) you're getting a absolutely stud of a player that's locked up long-term, we are talking Eichel when he was available.

I think their preferred combination was Jones + Coyle/Nelson + #3C, but once Florida got Jones they pivoted and looked at Nelson + Coyle + Carlo, and ultimately settled for Nelson + Coyle + EJ.

I was a pretty big proponent of Jones and I still think he'll eventually be a very solid #3/4 for them, but he's struggling more than I thought.

That's what I think as well.

I think they were probably originally hoping for Jones + Coyle (2C). Maybe with EJ as a #7 still, because I think Malinski would have been part of one of those deals. I think they were ok with Drury at 3C at first.

Then it sounds like Jones didn't want to go to Denver, so they switched to Coyle + Carlo. Maybe without EJ, unless they had to move Malinski.

Then it started to look like Mikko might go to Dallas, and Nelson rejected the final offer from NYI, so they upped their aggression to get a Nelson deal done, didn't have the assets left to match Toronto on Carlo, so they just brought in EJ as the other RD, and kept Malinski.

If Malinski and EJ keep playing well, that may turn out better than the Carlo package. Their passing fits the team better. Have to evaluate in the playoffs.

$4.875m seems a little bit too high for a 3LHD given the Avs cap situation. I guess you could get a bit of retention though since it's just 1 year remaining. That would probably be more expensive than it would be worth though.
Ya it wasn't really for the Avs necessarily. But in the unlikely event we did trade Girard (and perhaps re-sign Lindgren) maybe there's a 3-way trade that could send Girard elsewhere, while getting Matheson at 50%. Overall that would give us Lindgren & Matheson for ~6.5M on the left side.

We'd have to have some confidence that Gulyayev of Behrens would be ready to fill-in the following year but it would just be a cap-saving all-in move for next year (provided we had the assets to make it happen)

Val said that he has been sober for 9 month. Val is not going to go off the rails. Val told me that he wants to help us win another championship.

Avs are about as all in as we can be. Time to get over Nuke’s faults and vulnerability. It’s obvious his presence is required to get another SC.

FTR, remaining sober is a one day at a time thing for recovering addicts. It’s a very difficult road as addiction is a horrible disease. I’m not sure I or most people could do it. So much respect to Nuke for working to remain sober and to his teammates and the organization for exercising patience. We’re all hoping all that hard work pays off.

Is there a story I’ve missed here or is this a saying in another language that sounds amusingly specific when translated?
Strome revealed during a recent guest spot on the NHL Unscripted podcast that Chychrun no longer uses light bulbs in his house.

“He has a new thing every day,” Strome said. “I heard yesterday that he’s no light bulbs. He’s doing candle-lit in his house now. Yeah, that’s what his thing was yesterday. So he was on to – beeswax candles is what I heard is great for you. So now we’re all talking about beeswax candles.”
