Chychrun is bar none one of the best all around defensemen in the league when he's healthy. He's locked in at a great number for three runs if he's dealt tomorrow. I'd rather him than Hanafin any day of the week all things considered when Hanafin is getting a retirement contract starting with a 7.

But his contract is for another 2 years after this one. I don't understand why Ottawa would be in a rush to trade him unless the return was something they couldn't refuse which I doubt we would do.

I defended Guentzal like crazy on these boards but even I am very relieved to see him to go Carolina amidst the rumors of some bizarrely huge package going to the pens. No thanks. Trading a young high potential player or top prospect to anyone hurts, division rival for a rental is an absolute no go. That would have haunted the org for a decade plus.

It will be tricky with Vatrano, Ducks don’t have any retention spots left. So Rangers would have to take on his full salary for this and next year, which is just under 3.7 million cap hit.
