They didn't need to overspend on Goodrow then and fit him under the cap. And he should have gotten more if he were to trade him.
The idea at the time was that we had a soft team and needed to strengthen our bottom 6. Blais was a heavy hitter with some potential and Goodrow was a cup-winning 3/4th liner.

Money-wise you could have kept Kreider or Buchnevich. Drury kept Kreider. He then had the three best seasons of his career.

Plenty of moves can be looked back in hindsight and judged for their outcome. But it's better to judge the moves based on the situation, and information that Drury - or any GM - had at the time.

Kakko is trash and will always be. People will be claiming he is PP time away from a breakout in 2030 when he is playing in the KHL

He'll be in the NHL then. Even as he is now he's a useful NHL forward.

IF the Rangers traded for Jake Guentzel everyone would up in arms about what they gave up and steaming mad when he would fail to get Zibanejad and Kreider going (for the 100000th time, it's never been the RW's fault, not to mention hes another LW.)

Would have been a dumb move. Vatrano would also be a dumb move.

If you're going to give up futures, do it for players who either -

Have term left OR

You intend to resign. This was not a player they were ever going to be able to resign, they can't afford another big ticket on this roster with out one going out (good luck making that happen with out salary being retained or salary coming back.)

Overpaying for rentals is always dumb, especially when you have a bunch of even bigger holes in the roster. the smart approach would be to try to patch those the best you can. If we're going to be pissed about anything, it should be the reluctance that the FO has to doing that as they're doubling down on sub par, not even replacement level talent in key spots.

Yes and? How do we get those? we are too abover average to be able to draft them and Drury didn't seem to be in on Hanifin and will probably extend Lindgren
If you can trade Mika and Trouba you would have a ton of assets to go get a 1C and then you have cap space to chase first pair defenders. You have your overall 1D in Fox so it’s not like you need a $10m guy there.

Mika is not being traded unless the Rangers go full rebuild.

No on Toffoli he mops up after Hughes in order to score a lot of his goals. Mika won't create for him

Mika has a full no move

Vatrano sucks yea. And we aren't going anywhere given the love affairs this FO/coaching staff has with Trouba, Lindgren and Goodrow. Should be rolling Wennberg at 3C and Brodzinski at 4C with Edstrom and Rempe on his wing but Goodrow seems to have been promoted to 3C

Yeah that was arguably what got Gorton and JD fired...not addressing the team getting pushed around

he has a larger body of work than just playing on the Devils. He scored 34 goals with calgary before going to the devils

He's a good top six guy. whether he'd come "cheap" enough I dunno

This is Mika's cushy retirement gig. He isn't waiving his NMC and no team would want him at his cap hit. Same for Trouba
