The point is to acquire a couple of guys to actually help your young players along. Have the games mean something at least in March. Have Demidov a little something to play for. Give Dach a real solid winger. Nobody's claiming that signing one of those guys makes us contenders. It's specifically designed to help your young players instead of them staring down another season where they're out of the playoffs by December. It's deflating for the team (something they've already acknowledged.

There was many 2 or 3 guys you could have added this summer making this maybe possible. They have signed elsewhere cause they want to win. Signing guys like Monahan or Zadorov wont help us getting close to a playoffs spot.

For the whole "you want to wait until next year" a lot of player want their money and to go to a team trending up.

Habs being unable, or unwilling to get a bottom 6.forward to make the team a bit harder and almost certainly going to finish bottom 5 again will make it hard to sign said free agents.

Habs are an ascending rebuilding team, we are not ready for prime time, it’s not our turn yet

Our goal this season is for our young players to progress, see some vets play out their contracts and start stringing up some W’s.

2025-26 will be the year to push through.
