most of the time they trade the player in question , letting him rot is not really well seen because everytimes it happen the player in question gets traded
They only get a 2nd as compensation if he walks also, but you know the league does not like getting bullied by these NCAA types. There could be a standoff for another season.

Realistically, I wonder who will be in the market for Stamkos?

Detroit?
Nashville?
Rangers?
Boston?
Montreal?

3 years at 6 mill per? Probably 7 mill per in Montreal..

I haven't been impressed with his overall game ever since his last year in Detroit. He can still put the puck in the net, but he's not that player anymore.

I guess he's a good fix for a team that is looking for production in their middle six, but I wouldn't sign him longterm for what he got last year.

A GM will give him lots of money.

I trust Hughes not to do that.

Stamkos in Detroit would be pretty cool to see on paper. Debrincat-Larkin-Raymond, Stamkos-Compher-Kane. I really don't know if the wingers will be good enough defensively since you got 4 pure offense guys there.
