Canadians love their men's national team, and rejoice in their successes. But it's 'measured' in comparison to the true soccer fanatics in South America. They ride the agony and ecstasy of their home side with a fervor that borders on insanity at times.

And when their home side goes down--like Brazil did in the COPA quarter-final, it's almost a day of 'national mourning'. Watching those Venezuela fans despair, as they tried to come to grips with their penalty shoot-out loss to Canada, gives you more than pang of sympathy and is a little unsettling.

For Canadians, the comparison might be like watching your favorite NHL hockey team do down in the 7th game of a Stanley Cup playoff. But I'm not sure that's even an apt comparison.

One thing is for certain--being a coach or even a professional soccer player in South America, isn't for the faint of heart.

I see a few soccer analysts on TSN were lamenting that it's too bad the Caps Ryan Gauld isn't eligible to play for Canada's National Soccer team.

Although he's a Scottish National, a quick question. If he were ever to become a Canadian citizen, would he be eligible to play for Canada? And is he a player who could help the program?

What is wrong with the pitch? Why is it so slow?

And I tell you what, Canada has looked great on the counterattack so far

The pitch looks absolutely sodden and spongey. That could be bad for Canada's speed.

We've looked good except for the breakdown on the goal. Which also happened because of another non-call on a blatant foul against us.

Won't get any favours when Argentina in the finals means $1000 tickets.

Yes. Unfortunately he would become eligible like 2 weeks after the 2026 World Cup.

Eh, looks more like the defenders are struggling to cover the gaps and having to outwork the Argentinians to get even. A losing proposition.

Reffing is just embarrassing too, a stiff breeze is a foul against Canada but Argentina can challenge as hard as they'd like even if they don't get a whiff of the ball.

reffing actually an embarrassment, hard to not think this is fixed (though we didn't deserve the win)
