2024 Season Ticket Renewals / Playoffs

At what point does the individual ticket holder say "enough is enough, I can't do this anymore?"

There isn't much data regarding the Oilers private versus corporate ticket sales revenue but I do know that the private tickets sales are a substantial portion of the revenue pool. Not as much as a place like Winnipeg but still substantial.

The salary cap is rising by 25%+ over the next 3 years so probably safe to say that ticket prices will rise at a similar rate.

During the past season, how much would a pair of season tickets in the lower bowl have cost (ball park figure)?

Not sure you can count on the corporate sales in playoffs either. I know of at least one holder of a good chunk of seats who decided to not get playoffs and just keep regular season tickets. I think they are on the knifes edge of the supply demand curve here.

Completely agree with your statement. I've been saying this for the last decade but so far have been proven wrong.

I'd say the point is right now if not before that. On social media last playoffs a lot of people talking about how they were paying for playoff tickets on credit cards. Paying it off, that sort of stuff. Saying they won't be able to do that again. Then in the last couple weeks just check your investments. Everybody has been hit.

Most people I would think have been sobered about finances and expenditures. Its not a great economic time, tons of seats are available, tons of UNSOLD seats (which is rarity) Look at the costs of those. Anywhere from 340 lowest I could see to just over 900 bucks. For 1 ticket, for 1 game, for first round. The games won't be selling out, and I don't know that if the money was there that people are even hyped as they were last year.

It's funny how people react to shifting/inflationary prices.

When our house taxes go up 4% people are up in arms but for sporting events and musical events we tend to take a quieter approach that sometimes just results in complicity. That may be coming to an end.

I was brought up very frugally. Discretionary expenses is the first thing to go. Most I ever spent on a concert ticket is 99bucks for Pink Floyd and 150 last time Fleetwood Mac were here with all band members.

I'm much different. Ticketmaster is the most bloated gouging entity going. In the day of tech devices and apps they essentially provide no service, but exorbitant charge. They have an operation where their staffing/costs are minimal yet make a killing. Remember when you just paid a BASS 50cent ticket charge? haha people complained about even that back then.

With property tax its a shell game I can't get out of. You frown and pay the money. Nothing you can do.

This year was point I said enough is enough. I’m just a self employed construction worker and prices are getting out of my range for wanting to continue.
I had seats in 124 row 2 this year moved over from 127 last year prices 13,400 if I remember correctly and this year they jumped to 15,200
Playoffs this year they wanted 19,000

Almost hard to believe these numbers, especially for those not named Elon Musk. I also think that in your business competition is fierce and margins are shrinking?

Your average home taxes in Edmonton/Calgary would be approx. 5K?

Obviously you can't get out of paying home taxes but when the price of a pair of tickets for the season (in upper tier or lower?) is 3X that of your annual tax bill then when does the end come?

I wonder how long you can go on paying very average hockey players $1.5M (USA bucks). The average salary is around 3.0 M.

Admittedly, I don't have the answer.

Regardless, good luck in your business pursuits.

Prices have got to be near what the market can bear. But I’ve had plenty of people asking to buy my playoff seats so the demand must be there? I can see Round 1 sales being soft though this year.
