Nimmala is obviously a toolsy guy with a lot of power and upside but those K rates are terrifying.
Does anyone have any examples of guys who struck out 1/3 of the time in A ball and went on to be quality MLB hitters?
Gunnar Henderson: 29.3% in A-ball at age 20, 30.1% in A+ at age 20.
Marcell Ozuna: 32.1% in Low-A at age 19.
Brent Rooker: 29% in A+ at age 22.
Elly De La Cruz: 31% in A-ball at age 19, 30.7% in A+ at age 20.
Nimmala's strikeouts have been slowly getting better over the course of the season, and most of his problem appears to be a pitch-recognition issue which you would expect to get better with more professional at-bats.
This isn't a fatal flaw; he is still only 18 years old. The main thing here is that he is showing absolutely elite power progression. Even if he forever remains a high-strikeout hitter, that profile will still play given the elite power he is already showing. Especially if he sticks at SS.
There are very few hitters who are hitting for .250+ ISO at age 18.
