Gunnar Henderson: 29.3% in A-ball at age 20, 30.1% in A+ at age 20.
Marcell Ozuna: 32.1% in Low-A at age 19.
Brent Rooker: 29% in A+ at age 22.
Elly De La Cruz: 31% in A-ball at age 19, 30.7% in A+ at age 20.

Nimmala's strikeouts have been slowly getting better over the course of the season, and most of his problem appears to be a pitch-recognition issue which you would expect to get better with more professional at-bats.

This isn't a fatal flaw; he is still only 18 years old. The main thing here is that he is showing absolutely elite power progression. Even if he forever remains a high-strikeout hitter, that profile will still play given the elite power he is already showing. Especially if he sticks at SS.

There are very few hitters who are hitting for .250+ ISO at age 18.

Again, for everyone in this thread who was so sure that the FO had nothing to do with Bassitt clarifying his comments, it sure seems like the FO followed up with Bassitt because his comments made them look bad:

This entire paragraph below just reeks of shilling from Arden. Only 12 people know the full extent of what happened in the offseason so no one outside those 12 people can criticize the offseason? This is textbook "cover my ass mode" by the way, whoever that person was who said they were one of the 12. Can't defend yourself with the results, so start spewing hypotheticals and what-ifs. But the fact that Arden said he agreed with this person is even more concerning, and again just reeks of shilling:



Luckily BNS briefly sees reason here and strongly disagrees with Arden's BS argument. Although it's hilariously out of touch with the fanbase for BNS to claim that fans were optimistic about the team before the season:



Another instance of BNS' words sounding like they are coming from Bassitt's bosses themselves, but he at least admits that Shapiro, Atkins and John Schneider need to have thicker skin:



And now my favourite part...what was this extremely specific unprompted denial from Arden here LOL?



Arden also exposes himself here as an Atkins defender by calling Atkins a protagonist in the context of fans wanting him fired being a dominant storyline of the season. Let's all be real, Atkins is definitely an antagonist. Really hard to take Arden's defense of the offseason seriously after hearing this part:

There isn't a problem with the team following up with Chris in regard to his comments. That kind of stuff is better handled internally. Furthermore, they should want to know what he meant by it.

Arden's paragraphs where he is defending the offseason are definitely incorrect. As many of us said, they had a bad offseason. I believe they needed to change the hitting coaches and Schneider. They needed more bats. The poor bullpen was a surprise. A decline wasn't out of the question but to go from one of the best to the worst was a shocker. A lack of a decent farm system with pitchers should be heavily critiqued. If they had an arm or two in the bullpen in Buffalo it might have been better.

Can I clarify one more thing? Just very quickly, and I shouldn't even do this.

We went and we sought out Chris Bassitt and talked to him for 45 minutes. Chris Bassitt did not contact us. Blue Jays PR did not contact us. Rogers PR, Mark Shapiro did not call me in the middle of the day and say, hey, you've got to go massage this thing and clean up this mess for me.

I saw on social media that people were claiming some of those things happened. That's probably what he's responding to.
 
Since Shapiro and Atkins took over in 2016 the Jays have not had a repeat leader in bWAR in the last 9 years. Can you name the leaders in those years:

2016: it is a position player
2017: it is a pitcher
2018: position player
2019: position player
2020: pitcher
2021: position player
2022: pitcher
2023: position player
2024: position player

I only got 2016 and 2024 right.

Edit: i got 2021 too.

I got both of what you got plus 2020. I can't remember much from the 2017-2019 years but 2019 definitely surprised me. I should have got 2022.

I got 5 right. The only one I couldn't think of that I feel I should have gotten was 2020.

I got 2016, and 2021 through 2024. The 2017 answer I would have gotten but used him for 2020 because my roster timelines suck. Thought I had reasonable guesses for 18 and 19 but those are basically impossible. Felt bad for missing 2020, can't believe I forgot how good he was that year

Maybe I'm blind but I'm not seeing at all what is being described in this post. If anything the leg lift is more pronounced (or at least longer), which is what I've been advocating for both him and Varsho. The less stiff and the more athletic Loperfido's swing becomes the better the results will be imo. Yes, you do want to get your foot down early and out in front, but "planting" hasn't really been his problem in the Majors.

See? Now there's a guy who understands that this game exists because of, and for, the fans. To allow them to see cool things and experience a historic event. Yes, it's in the middle of a pennant race and the Sox need a win...but sometimes that has to be put aside, if only for a instant, to allow history to be made. Something someone like Mike Babcock, and perhaps Ross Atkins (Votto) obviously never understood.

Votto explicitly said he only wanted to play if he felt he could be a major league-calibre player.

I heard that. And good on him. Guess he didn't want to go out like Willie Mays. Too bad he got hurt in Spring Training. It would have been a nice cap to a HOF career. Still...making the announcement on IG from a parking lot? I think there might be more to this story.
