I was thinking of starting thread like this back up (Did one a few years ago)

As a Bear fan I hope it works out this time

Still think Falcons are nuts for drafting Penix after signing Cousins

At #8 there were several guys they could have taken with that pick who could have really helped Falcons elsewhere

Cousins is a 2 year deal in reality. Figure he's gone by the end of year 2. Penix, like we have seen with Love and other young QBs, you don't need 4 great years to get paid. He'll get his 5th year option picked up after year 3 (likely after his 1st year as a starter) to secure $20 mill. And then get paid after year 4.

#8 is kind of high to sit a kid for 2 years. Much more palatable to do that at #20 or something.

Rookie QB's combined for 0 TD's yesterday passing

While not shocking to see some struggles in first NFL game I am a bit surprised none found endzone

Nothing to be concerned about though with Nix the limits on his arm is making some question his NFL upside

He will learn you cant get away with some passes at this level if you don't have rocket arm to make up for shortcomings

Daniels and Nix did get rushing TD's (Daniels 2 and Nix 1) though one of Daniels was in garbage time at end of game

Nix looked the worst by far. Williams didn't do much of anything, but his mechanics didn't look nearly as bad as Bo's did.

Yeah, Nix was the only one that looked worringly bad to me versus just not being NFL-ready yet. Obviously too early to judge anyone.

So after week 2:

Daniels - probably has looked the best of the bunch so far. Having an OC who has experience coaching a dual threat QB in Kliff Kingsbury shows a lot. Not forcing him to do too much, running a heavy dose of read options and generally having an offense that fits his skill set. Did admittedly play against the Giants but still.

Nix - looked better than last week, but still wasn't great. Going unnoticed in this situation is how bloody awful the Broncos offense is as a whole. Dropped passes, awful o-line, and zero run game to the point Nix has had to throw the ball 77 times already through 2 games. He is certainly a problem, but not the problem.

Williams: similar situation to Nix. Looked better but still wasn't ideal. Made some nice throws in the first half but then proceeded to nearly die after getting sacked 7 times while facing pressure on 36 of 37 throw attempts. Get this man an o-line for the love of God. Don't do him like we seen Ryan Tannehill and Andrew Luck in the past.

Maye - hasn't stated a game yet, and with how competitive the Patriots look with Brissett under center, probably wont for a while.

Moore, Allen, Odunze, Kmet and their RB is what fans of the bears were excited about. With cap room, should have bolstered the IOL as they have OT that don’t require big contracts at the moment. Williams needs to get the ball out when the play design calls for it. Took some sacks because of it.

McCarthy, injured. If it was the other way around and Darnold got hurt would McCarthy have fared as well if he had to play?

Maye, NE competitive. OL still needs work and their weapons on the outside don’t do much. At some point Maye will get a chance. Probably by Nov.

Daniels. Looked better but no TD drive vs giants.

Nix, he needs the guys around him to play well. And they are not. 3 years without a first rounder and 2 without a second will do that to a team.

Williams missed several wide open WR's

That is concerning and this "Amazing Arm" that I have been hearing about on him since before draft has yet to make an appearance

Both his INT's (And the one flag saved him from) were awful throws that you're not going to get away with in NFL

OL sucks but there is plenty of things with Williams struggles that are 100% on him

Didn't think Caleb Williams looked all that great last night. Seemed to be quite a bit jittery on his throws, with poor accuracy a lot of the time. The pressure from a good defence is something he'll have to get used to as it looked like it was clearly affecting him.

If bears can’t handle the pressure DC will only continue to blitz Williams.

There's something to the amount of pressure he faced working to screw with every throw. He missed some, but thinking you're about to be drilled on every drop back is going to mess up your timing.

We expect good QBs to make big throws under pressure, but we don't expect any QB to feel this much pressure on every throw.

Too many fans are fixated on weapons when the best thing for a QB is protection. They have young OT so if you have the cap room pay for veteran IOL. Allen I get why Chicago wanted him, but his $18 mill cap charge may have been better spent on a IOL.

Herbert has 274 passing yards in his 2 games. That should be his average but chargers are 2-0 so he’ll take that. Bookended the OL with Slater and Alt. Like Dallas in their prime have 3 first round OL.

The David Carr rule.

But watching Greg Dulich play like he just ate a tub of fried chicken also makes me see the use of some skill position help.

I am starting to be concerned about Williams

OL sucks as well as play calling but he is making awful decisions and throws when he has time

10 quarters of his career gone with no TD at this point

Lots of people, myself included, didn't think he had an NFL mentality yet

He struggled mightily in college against actual quality defenses

And he doesn't seem to have a pro mindset when it comes to prep and all the off-field stuff

He'll get a long leash and plenty of time to get there, but this is about as bad of a start as he could've had

Some of the problem with "even when he has time" is he's had so few of those plays that it's almost impossible to judge a guy's timing when you know he doesn't trust his blockers at all.

Really, it's just a matter of time before he's injured with this Bears team.
