No one would ever be able to be at the same level without Brady, but I believe that Belichick had been succession planning for a smoother transition into the post-Brady era and Kraft meddled with both that and with the rebuild effort, leaving the cupboards bare.

that and this past offseason they failed to hire a GM and are just having Eliot Wolf handle the job, they're big coaching search resulted in just promoting Mayo and after going into free agency with $100 million in cap space their big accomplishments were re-signing JAGs from a 3 win team and leaving $50 million of cap space on the table

Play Maye, don't play Maye. I don't care. I said at the end of last year, that Washington was going to be the barometer for the Patriots rebuild. Both teams sucked last year, both were 4-13, both changed coaches and both had cap space to play with. Hell, I'd argue that Washington was an even bigger shit-show of a roster than New England was last year.
Lots of football left to play and we'll see how both teams end up. But if I'm a New England fan, I'm grading my team's progress against Washington's, because they started in the exact same spot.

You can't do that and then claim, "Oh, but the owner screwed up the rebuild." Ownership did NOT pick Cole Strange in the friggin' first round - Bill did. That's revisionist history bull.
Kirk Cousins has gone from a guy who couldn't win in prime time to one who can't seem to lose them now.
Anf they had the cap space to sign Cousins, trade down and get Alt and Worthy and then more help to fill put the roster at the draft and in FA. Small ball approach but it would get a winning record and time to set up the OL and receiver comp for the next QB is 3-4 years.

And why would Cousins come here when he's chasing a championship with the offensive roster they have?
ATL has a good core and was an ADEQUATE QB away from being a PO team. Adding Cousins makes them a dark horse SB threat IMO.
Also, this place would've lost their damn minds if Wolf on day 1 of FA gave Cousins, coming off an injury 4/180 with 100 mil guaranteed. Saying anything else is absolute revisionist history.
The plan should have always been draft and develop. The QB class this upcoming draft is shit, and someone is going to pay a ransom to get suckered into Shadeur Sanders. Draft the franchise QB first, deal with another down year, fix LT in the draft in 2025 and you have the start of something good for hopefully a decade.
There's a lot to critique with this team and the direction, players, etc....but not signing Kirk Cousins isn't it.

That Seahawks loss looking worse now. Goff didn't throw a single incomplete pass on monday night and now Daniel Jones is dissecting them without Nabers while the Giants defense is holding the Seahawks offense to 6 points
