hes establishing a new culture. It has nothing to do with the scores.

“[The first days of camp] were pretty tough, but that was the message coming into camp is that we’re going to be a competitive team this year,” 11-year NHL veteran Cody Ceci said

Unless competitive means "losing a lot of games by smaller margins", I think there's a severe lack of realistic expectations there.

Like EK with us (in a way), they're probably realizing it's time to rebuild
Like EK with us, they're probably realizing that betting big on a guy who has an over 100 point season that is a clear outlier from the rest of his career was a bad idea. The Sharks at least knew that was the height of Karllson's value and dumped it at the high.

I think there are better avenues for the Sharks to pursue a 15 goal scoring center than this.
Difference is we're not giving up foundational pieces to get Hubby whereas Pitts did. Technically we're actually saving cap space the next couple of seasons in this scenario and the remaining 5 years it's only costing 5 million. Not a bad risk not to mention also getting a solid B+/A- defensive prospect to boot.

We sold high on EK, and Grier I hope is savvy enough to know when to buy low on others.

Yeah, I don't think anyone's really expecting to contend for the playoffs, but losing a lot of games by smaller margins is exactly what they're going for. They've said it over and over again. Win or lose, "want teams to feel like it sucked to play against us, not have an easy night against us."

I listened to Warsofsky this week on SiriusXM. He talked about how the players and coaches (including himself) are going to make mistakes and just like you said, he said he wants it to be whenever teams visit SJ or SJ visits them, that opposing teams think it's a tough game. He wants the reputation of SJ being an "easy win" to end.

He is no way setting an expectation for a winning season in 24-25.

There are better buy low opportunities

Few that would also bring back a good-to-great prospect and an opportunity to move Pickles.

Just a thought. Doubt Mark would waive anyways.
The idea that they would ship a good to great prospect to make this deal is in your head, not Calgary's and dumping two years of Vlasic's deal when they don't need the cap space to take on five additional years of his deal when they will need the cap space is bad math.

Competitive means like the swiss and germans against Canada at any best on best international tournament. Both realize they are going to probably lose but Canada is going to have to work there butts off for every chance they get.

Huberdeau scored 12 goals last season. You'd have to be insane to sign up for 7 more years of that at 5.25M.
52 points at 5.25 isn’t.

Of course it’s in my head. I made the whole thing up, but the reality is Calgary would have to give up a premium piece or two to move that contract. I dont think the 5.25 hit would be that detrimental in 5 years considering we have approx 0 players signed beyond 4 years.
