There is a tanking thread so why not a playoff thread?

If we look at the division standing right now chances are looking not bad for the Habs.

If WSH and PIT were to win their next game, we would still only be 7 points out of a wildcard spot for equal game played around mid season. I like our chances.

My kind of thread, full of optimism and hopes.

I voted yes, but the Habs will have to string some wins to get there.

Sure there are fans that would like to make the playoffs, myself included as playoff hockey is vastly more entertaining then what the regular season displays, but this org has no interest or intention of considering it obviously. They seem much more interested in squeezing every last drop of worth out of their roster.

2nd last in the stronger conference where every team but buffalo has a chance at the playoffs.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think so. I love wins, I’d rather win than lose. But, with how well the other teams in our conference are playing?

4 teams fighting for the wild card position (Detroit, Pittsburgh, NJD, and Washington) are on pace for 93-94 points. So at a minimum Montreal would probably have to get 94 points (especially since they probably won’t win a tiebreaker with regulation wins). To get there they would have to go 25-13-1 (or 24-12-3) in their last 39 games for 51 points (after going 18-18-7 in their first 43 games). I can’t see Montreal achieving that.

I remember saying at the start of the season "this team will be in the mix until February, and then, when things get serious it will disapear from the playoffs conversations". I still stand with this opinion.

I watch every game for what it is and hope to be entertained. Will not watch in the hopes they lose a boring game let’s put it that way.

I hope they trade all the vets and package 3 Def. prospects for an all-star scoring winger and Slaf still carries their sorry asses into the playoffs where Monty become the new St-Pat.

It would certainly invite an interesting conversation about what constitutes proper rebuilding were Montreal to make the playoffs and both Ottawa and Buffalo not.

Definitely overachieving but way too many injuries and a really hard schedule coming up. I dont see it. I still say they end up with a pick in the 10-12 range. But habs are headed in the right direction

What Slim chance we had went out window with Dach injury

Do these "toughness of schedule" rankings consider whether the opposition is playing through a scheduling crunch or the injury situation of a given team? Does it take into consideration how the opposition is trending at the time, or how motivated they feel if they have built a significant cushion?

I think this toughness of schedule ranking is not as informative as it is intended to be.

Great thread idea. Now each faction has its bully pulpit.

Let hyperbole run its course in both places, should be fun.

Argggg.... I mean, I know people like the idea of being in the playoff, but this team is clearly not ready to, year after year, be a playoff/contender team. You need to tank this year to go get a more assets. After, you go with the flow.

Tankathon calculate it based on pt% (top 10 best/worst) and it's not fixed at all. For example, the Leafs used to be in the "hard" group, but aren't anymore since they dropped to 12th by pt % with their 4 lost in a row.

If you want to see team trends, you can use Moneypuck standings graphs thought.

since we play better against tougher teams, this suggests that well probably launch our way into the playoffs THIS year!
Habs won COL game.
They can skate and play hockey with any team and Habs can win on any given day.
The consistency, that's a different story.

Get the hell out of my thread with your negative attitude, I'm sure you fit in well in the tank thread. How dare some of us want to see competitive hockey again and not cling for ever into this madness of cheering for losses for a potential high pick that may or may not make a difference.

How is it working for Ottawa and Buffalo?
