No idea if he still posts here, but there was a poster with terrible trade proposals and Spearment Rhino was his name. Seemed random to me, but now....

On a different boat, Basu and Godin didn't do a podcast Friday, or today, unless they're taking today off for the holiday, too.

The rebuild isn't over, keep drafting. Trading first round picks for immediate help while we have practically no forward depth is a mistake.

You mean the Habs should not trade 1st round pick for Dach and Newhook to get that forward depth?

Now it's time to actually build the team.
It,s time to go after the specific needs (like forwards) and complete the job.
We odn't need 18 D and 25 forwards a for the rebuild, I think we need one or two pieces.

Yep, the team needs a real top 6 winger ala Necas. This guys is exactly the kind of player that would fit. (more than a Guentzel). Honestly i'd give Strubble/Harris/Armia/Anderson/Dvorak + Winnipeg's 1st ++?. We could even take a bad 1 year contract.

Hopefully if we keep Anderson he has a much better Year and if we keep Armia we get the Armia we saw at year end.

Gally playing like last year is fine on a 4th line for a last year before buyout.

We'll be better if Dach is healthy most of the year and Roy and Newhook pick up where they left and keep improving.

I'm eager to see Slaf next season. He's really growing and the now man has balls and swagger. Oh he's gonna be goood.

Slafkovsky Suzuki Necas
Newhook/Roy Dach CC
Newhook/Roy Dvorak Anderson/Armia
??? Evans Gally

Rhp as 13th.

Farewell Ylonen, White, Pearson

If we could trade one of Anderson/Armia for something (in a package for Necas or for a big 4th line left wing in the proper age range) it would help resolve the jam for 3rd line right wing.

I did'nt hate Gally with Evans at year end. We just need a better left wing that likes to shoot on this line so Gally has something to jump on after the initial shot. ;)

I like the Pezz story but we need more a Florian type guy than an unproductive punching bag. Big and mean, could even be an older FA so as to not lock up space on the 4th in the future.

Baron has to find his maturity as i like the package but i hate the lows. I'm not sold on long term and may be trade material.

On defense we'd start the year with

Matheson-Guhle
Hutson?-Savard
Xhekaj-Barron
Harris-Kovacevic

Defense is so packed it's hard to foresee but my year end take would be

Ghule-Barron (if he makes that step)
Xhekaj-Mailloux (love that pairing, head up boys!)
Hutson-Reinbacher (safe minutes)
Harris-Some safe tough veteran to replace Big Dave, maybe not as good but mostly there to help the kids.

Yeah, that's young af... lol that's why we'd want a 35 year old top D on his decline for cheap at FA.

Matheson, Savard, Kovacevic for picks or pieces.

We have Florian/Beck we want to make sure we plan a spot for them in due time. We could even tough out the season end with Evans on the 3rd and Beck/Florian alternating on the 4th line center if slated not to make the playoffs and we get a good deal for Dvorak.

Pfiew, so many pieces, so green, so much potential and management had the chance to evaluate a lot of the kids. The prospects that are ready have shown it (maybe not fully mature but we know they'll be playing in the nhl). The good nhl pieces are known at this point though some are still wow-meh.

The 'team' ain't in the form it will be as per Hugues/Gorton plan BUT it's definitely got trade capital and rookie depth to get there. Time and crafty trading will ensure the team is actually in the mix in 2025-2026.

Well, i just wanted to quickly comment but got lit... lol

We need Powerplay help. We need a specialist forward who can be a QB/Bumper for the powerplay. While that addition wouldn't be cheap, its not necessarily the biggest price and the league is full of PP guys. The team struggled so much to get that extra goal last season, if they have a half-way decent PP this coming season it could make a big difference.

Of course, they could always get stamkos.....(please)

Will they trade for a specific need or another young player who is deemed the most expendable on their team? What do you think you are going to get by trading a 6/7D, Armia, and Dvorak? If we're going to rush the rebuild might as well of kept Bergy.

Agree. Stamkos would make so much sense for this team. Unfortunately I still believe Tampa can make re-signing him work out for them because they always do. Plus he most certainly won't be cheap if he's going to test the market.

That is actually a pretty disturbing caption. Asking ''where's daddy '' and beside it it makes it look like he's at a strip club! That's where daddy is:laugh:

We actually already have a 22 man roster.

Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Anderson-Dach-Newhook
Armia-Evans-Gallager
Pezzetta-Dvorak-RHP

Matheson-Guhle
Hutson-Savard
Xhekaj-Barron
Harris-Kovacevic

Montembeault
Primeau

Everyone is signed too except for Barron & Xhekaj. Struble is in AHL in this scenario because we don't need 9 D.

I don't how much we can do with this. It would be nice to improve the 4th line for sure. Dvorak is ok as center. He always gets hurt anyway.

Roy is more likely to be in the NHL than Hutson.

And I'd take Ylonen over RHP.

Why? RHP has been more productive in each of the last 2 seasons despite playing in fewer games both seasons. RHP also takes regular shifts on the PK, hits more, blocks more shots, and draws significantly more penalties then he takes compared to Ylonen.

Potential.

RHP is overachieving, there are 5th liners who play like 3rd liners every year, but it's not meant to be it's just temporary success. We see players like that on the Habs all the time.

Ylonen has been less effective, but he has the potential to be better

At this stage, what do you base that assessment of greater potential on?

They are 10 months apart in age & both in their mid 20s. RHP has been the better NHLer through ~100nhl games (83 for him vs 111 for Ylonen), even with his injury set back.

Curious what you see in Ylonen that suggest greater potential?

I think both should not be on a decent Habs team. RHP is a smallish 4th liner which we simply don't need. Don't be surprised if he isn't on waivers after training camp.

I can certainly see the argument RHP overachieved 2 years ago when he got his 14 goals and 20 points in 34 games, but I can't see the argument he overachieved last year with his 2 goals in 45 games and he still managed to outproduced Ylonen. Even in the AHL RHP has generally been more productive.

I just don't see Ylonen having much potential over what he's shown, he's never really shown anything at the NHL level and he's never even been all that close to ppg at the AHL level. And since the coach clearly doesn't value Ylonen even if he has more inherent potential in him, his chances of realizing it in Montreal are close to zero so you might as well go with the guy whose actually been better both at the AHL and NHL level and plays the right way.

If that's because we've added a top 6 & top 9 upgrade to the roster, great... If not, I'd much rather see us pull an Armia waiver season start with Anderson instead. No risk of him getting picked up and if he shows up in camp/pre-season playing like he did all last season, he should be the first one waived

I have a feeling that Anderson bounces back...just a hunch

In the end, neither Ylonen or RHP are part of the solution going forward.

You'd have liked either to force the issue but other than glimpses, that's where we are.

The good news is the future of the team doesn't rely on either of these guys panning out.

I hope so...

I think he is more than capable of increasing his tally by an additional 10 goals.

He's gone through something similar before in his final season with cbj, and he bounced back just fine. No reason he can't do the same this year.

We need another top 6 winger which would push everyone down and improving the 3rd and 4th line in the same process.
