Koly is tricky. Hasn't really earned a one-way deal. He may just be one of those guys who ultimately gets his spot eaten up by depth.

He’s shooting his shot. The D depth chart is trash. He’s probably angling for a much higher AHL wage and a Euro contract out-clause. This may be the last time in his hockey career he ever has any semblance of leverage. I’m proud of our boy.

1 - He wont waive to go to a non playoff team.
2 - It would be dumb to give assets for him
3 - It would be even dumber to sign him to an extension.
1 - Probably not
2 - Definitely. Toronto should give to dump his $11m.
3 - Dude is coming off a 65 point season, wins 58% of his draws and is a decent vet. He would not be terrible to have around for a year or 3 if it was a more reasonable NHL type contract rather than a Toronto sized one.

Trouba has 2 years at $8 million Cap hit. If he's on the market not only will there be no retention the Rangers will be getting assets back in a trade. He's a legit number 1 D on a reasonable contract. You fellas are delusional

That's a curious take alright.

Anyway, speaking of curiosity, I was wondering what the moves for Utah would be this offseason. Seems like the consensus is that the forward group is solid/deep and if anyone can take a step they have the opportunity to do so but we can expect money poured on the backend? Sounds like a fun time to be a fan, shed some second rounders and acquire some guys. Reminds me of when the Isles got Boychuk and Leddy, what a day that was! They ended up being our top pairing.

3 Dmen and a 1c who can win faceoffs is my wish list.

I feel like Maccelli and Laine would be great linemates. So that might force Doan onto Keller's line.

I think he would be an excellent player for a year or 2 (or 3). It is the cost of acquisition (would need to be a cap dump) and the cost of year 2 and 3.

Utah is loaded in the next 2 drafts. 7 picks in the first 3 rounds this year and in 2025. I believe they also have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds in 2026. Add that to the a top 3 farm system and future looks really bright with some stability in ownership.

If the owner is willing to be near the cap Utah could make a big splash in the playoffs in a couple of years

Hopefully we use some of those picks for players and chase a spot this year but totally agree. The future looks bright.

“We had seven 20 goal scorers so we’re gonna be good up front, we’ve gotta add some D-men and kinda tinker with that. And see what we get at the draft and with a few trades and we’ll see how that goes.”

Sound like he’s not looking to make major changes or upgrades to the forward group. Seems quite focused on the blueline.

As he should be. I don't even think the D line needs "major" upgrades to make this team an 8th seed. The line was so bad last year that smaller type upgrades could really see them make a push with all the offense they already have.

Keller-Hayton-Doan
Maccelli-Bjuggy-Laine
Crouse-Cooley-Guenther
Carcone-McBain-Kerfoot

Not bad.
Why does everyone here keep on putting Hayton as the #1C? As far as I'm concerned he lost that job last year and has to earn it back with his play. Hayton can't handle the pressure and talent of other team 1st. lines. I would rather keep Schmaltz than have Laine. Hell, Laine would probably have withdrawal symptoms and and go on LTIR. Do not want Laine, he isn't the type of character I want on my team.
