He was likely always going to retain on a Hertl trade. Sucks it’s to Vegas but at this point does it really matter? By the time the sharks are competing again Vegas will be on a downward trajectory.

There's no way you're trading Hertl without retention.

I have a feeling that Cooch might end up LTIR'd to end his career now as one of the last non-Vlasic moves to get out from under the DW contract morass.

So we are paying Hertl like 1.3M per for the next 6 years? Basically like eating a year of his contract. Considering he is only getting older "2 firsts (sort of) seems like a pretty good deal. Most here would probably retain 8M for 2 3rds.
